Don’t mind the builder’s mess ! 😂
So I’ve recently converted my loft. Does anyone know what colour furniture would really match this? And an accent colour would be amazing too

Hi Anisha,

Grey is a great neutral to use - go with a warm tone grey to keep the room feeling cosy.

Warm greys usually state that they have either a pink or brown undertone.

If you want to create a calming effect, pick Blue or Green as your secondary colour for example a headboard/curtains/feature wallpaper etc. Pink is a cosy colour as is burnt Orange.

Then pick out an accent colour for your accessories eg, cushions, vases...

You can choose a complementary colour or a contrasting colour depending on what secondary colour you have chosen. I know this may sound a little confusing, but take a look at this colour wheel. The colours opposite one another are contrasting colours and really pop together, eg, Blue and Orange. The colours sat next to one another are complementary colours which also work well. Obviously, on the colour wheel, it shows the brightest colours, but the same can be said for any shades such as pastels.

So, if you went with Grey for the walls and a navy blue as your secondary colour, you could choose mustard or burnt Orange as your contrasting accent colour. For a softer look, you could have Grey walls, navy Blue and a complementary lighter Blue as your accent colour.

Really the possibilities are endless, start by asking yourself three questions...

How do you want this room to feel?

How much light does this room get?

What colours and styles am I drawn to?

That should help you come up with some ideas.

Hello Jessica!
I definitely was opting for a welcoming, modern or contemporary room with lots of light. This room is very bright in itself as it has 2 velux windows and a standard window on the opposite side. In terms of colours I’m indifferent and that’s why I’ve created this forum today!

Hi, thank you for your comment. The floor has a slight green tone to it which I think can be seen in the 4th picture. The cupboard colours are little greene french grey and juniper ash. The current wall colour F&B shaded white. It opens up in to the table/dining area so the only walls are the window wall or cooker wall. Thanks for your help.

Instead of looking at it like a tv problem I would look it like A wall problem. Ask yourself What do want to feel when I look at that space? Do i want to feel calm? Thought provoked? Homely and catch up with the outside world(hence TV) Personally I would make it a feature wall and hang some thought provoking art. Something that gets your quests talking every time they are in the kitchen.

Personally I think eclectic what I would do. I think I would be looking for a contemporary four poster bed, choosing velvet and metallics for a lux feel but then teaming it with contemporary white textured furniture. (Images from the Next catalogue) For the same reason I also think that Chinese style white furniture also works. (VidaXL) However for me the mid century ceiling light is the wrong style and is too small for the space.

Hi Anisha

what do you think you will use the room for

? bedroom/ retreat/ snug/ teen den

then think about what you like

if you are not sure about when u may want to change, then opt for more neutral base colour and add accents in fabric which curtains cushions: accessories art , these can be changed more easily

lots of plants look great and keep it fresh,

think about storage as part of your design rather than at the end

Definitely a general bedroom. Is a light grey a good base colour and maybe mustard as an accent? I had that in mind but I don’t want to be stuck to one option.

I love warm grey - my house is almost entirely F&B Shaded White 201 on the walls. It goes with pretty much everything - one bedroom has teal accents, one has green, one has orange. They all look fab, and because they are accents, can easily be changed. This is the en-suite. Actually, I chose the tiles first (a long time ago) and selected the paint to match them. Then I found it just worked well everywhere!
