Fireplace wall unit ideas

I’m in need of some help. We are building a fake chimney breast with for gas fire, tv will hang above. I’m planning on having to cupboards at either side with shelving above. So far I’m struggling to find pictures. what I’m looking for is a rich classy look from wood rather than the painted look. can anyone advise where I could look for ideas, please? I’ve trawled Instagram and pinterest for ideas but haven’t had much joy.

First picture is the best I can find and the style of fire we have choosen. Second picture is of our current living room.

ps: worried I’ve ordered the wrong fire!!!

The heat from the gas fire builds up in the faux chimney so needs an outlet and ventilation. On mine, this is at the rear (external wall) and grills side of chimney breast - they do get hot.
(The TV doesn’t).

We did not want to store / display anything at the side so this was not a problem to us. Our “before” looks very similar to what you have.
Possibly because of the heat maybe why there are not many images associated with gas fire tv above.

If you haven’t already tried, you may find the arrangement you are looking for / ideas by searching for electric fire tv above or going on different manufactures websites. If you see something you can then find out if this is suitable for gas fire.

It depends on how you use the room and which room the door leads into, I think. If you use this as the main sitting room/lounge I would be tempted to just put vertical panels to close it up, so you can store whatever under the stairs, and put the TV above the fireplace instead. If you do bifold doors I think you can get away with mounting the TV on one of the panels and the door can open in a way that won't bother the Tv. I have something similar in my new build, but the developers did not use the full length under the stairs so the storage 'room' is rather small. I use the remaining of the space outside to put an American fridge freezer (under stairs space is inside my kitchen diner.)

These photos give you a better idea of the room space - i want to get rid of the unit in picture 2 and hide the devices in the alcove cupboards plus associated essentials that go with it. The rest is school stuff but we also use that room to do homework anyway. You can also see how shallow the alcoves are.

I love this contrast between the modern kitchen and the traditional features of a room I’m guessing is Georgian. Is there ornate coving at the ceiling? If so, then simply decorate the area above the units to match the rest of the room and emphasise the contrast. If there’s no coving then you could do as Jonathon suggests: box in above the units but at a depth of 30cm rather than the full depth of the cabinets, and creating a semi-recessed appearance. Hopefully that would give sufficient space for your ceiling lights. And, this would also allow you to fit a display shelf across the remaining space - if you wished - that is less deep and therefore more functional and easily accessible.
