You could do a red that blends with the brick, lick this: If your house is attached, try to maintain a mass look with your neighbor. Don't change trim or other details. Keep it consistant. If your neighbor likes the front door color then they could do it, too. Think of having one house where one door is one color and the other is another, the trim is one color in one section and another in the second section. I'm sure you get what I mean. But I think even if the neighbor wants to stay white, that would be OK. Another favorite on Houzz for front doors is blue. How about a dark blue like this: The right yellow would work: Or Black: Some colorful planters by the entry would also make you stand out - in a good way. Good luck!

I smashed my own out when we moved here 24 years ago. It was vile what was in and I couldn't stand to look at it any longer. Hubby went to work with a fireplace in the house and came home to find it had gone. I took a sledgehammer to it. Was a great feeling. I can't see that there's anything to go wrong unless you have a gas fire installed in it and in which case get a Gas Safe engineer to cap it off. You'll obviously need to replaster the wall when the bricks have been removed but that's not an expensive job for that bit. Other to that have a smashing time ;-))

How about a nice wood and slate roofed porch over the front door? It will add a bit of rustic charm, if that’s your scene. My brother recently did this with a rather plain 1950’s house he was working on. They changed all the windows to steely blue coloured frames and the front door to match. Looks lovely. I don’t have a picture, but this is an example of similar porches. If it’s too rustic for you, you could go for a more modern look.
