Seem like inbuilt wardrobes to me

Even if I rip them off the wall and repair everything, will need to re do them in the same size?

Would it be more expensive, as it has be tailored to specifications ?

You can get sliding doors for the exact size of aperture you have or have a joiner make a frame in the aperture so that it matches something that was made for someone else…. Don’t forget that every time you have to customise things the cost of labour reduce any cost saving elsewhere.

This ebay seems like a good idea

I would love to take down both the wardrobes and replace them with free standing units from ebay

The problem is these wardrobes seem inbuilt into the wall and at the entrance have the external cupboard abutting them

So even if rip them away, there will still be some space in that area? So I would need to get a wardrobe of the same dimension, to fit the area

What you currently have is an aperture with doors on the front and a rail inside. You could replace the doors with your sliding door option but there is a cost implication. I have just tried to illustrate that there are cost effective options too- if it were me I would prioritise my spending on great quality tradespeople in order to get in faster and have a better finish. I would then make sure that floors, doors and the kitchen are good. Then I would buy a really good bed because you spend more time in bed than on the sofa.
And then things like wardrobes can be bought inexpensively and upgraded later if you later have the money.

This ripping of these side walls of the wardrobe and take down the rails, seems like a good idea

Could fill up that space with a bed or another piece of furniture like a dressing table.

As Jonathan advised, can always get a free standing wardrobe from ebay and paint it over at a later stage.

Some of the side walls have huge cracks, can save on EML !!

The builders will be around, so hopefully not a big task to do

As you mentioned, as budget permits, I will leave the wardrobes for the last. Can always find something reasonable on ebay

Those cracks are nothing to do with the wardrobe…. Those are walls behind the wood doors that you can see. You can repair those cracks without taking the doors out but it sounds like that decision has been made and as an earlier poster said you can live without wardrobes and prioritise the main rooms and dusty work before buying furniture.
