Comments (0)We are going to replace the fireplace surround and backplate and hearth that we have at the moment and keep the existing gas balanced flue fire that we have (black surround on gas fire). I love the arched fire look. What are the opinions on using this cast back plate: http://www.galleryfireplaces.co.uk/show_product.php?from_flash=1&product_id=95 or the following, although this is not the arched look I am after but follows the lines of the non arched fire that I have: http://www.galleryfireplaces.co.uk/show_product.php?from_flash=1&product_id=103 I have been getting prices to change the gas fire to get the arched look, by that I mean this: http://www.galleryfireplaces.co.uk/show_product.php?from_flash=1&product_id=532 but I am getting prices of £1400 upwards simply because I don't have a chimney but am working with a balanced flue, vented to outside wall (house 9 years old). That's on top of the new surround and hearth etc. Just too much. This is the surround I have been looking at http://www.focalpointglasgow.co.uk/fireplaces-fires/fireplaces/ashleigh-mantel/ All opinions welcome! Comments (12)Thanks, we couldn't be happier with it! I think it'll still be okay in your room as our picture rail visually lowers the ceiling in ours. Also I often think the room would look much more balanced if it were even little wider so yours is perfect. I imagine your ceilings are just above where our picture rail is. The mirror we went for is 80cm square but we could have gone up to 90cm so hopefully that gives you a guide to the space above the mantle. We went with a the Gallery Bartello surround, Capital stove, Stovax iron fascia and custom honed slate hearth. Ended up ordering them all separately and getting an independent company to fit it all. They did a brilliant job so if you're inside the M25 I can pass on their details if you like. It was more complicated to co-ordinate than just getting everything from one place but it worked out an awful lot cheaper and I didn't have to compromise on anything (and my husband will tell you I hate compromise!)....See MoreTextured wallpaper in upper panels?
