Living room layout - TV location

I'm attaching a rough floorplan of the living room in our new house. It has a corner fireplace which we like and would like to keep and also lots of doors. My main question is where would you put the TV as there is only one long wall but this would mean sofa facing the TV would have your backs to the fireplace.

I'm not massively keen on TVs over fireplaces but is that our only option (is it safe and does it feel too high?!)?

Room is square roughly 4m x 4m.

I suppose another option is to block up either the single door to the hallway or the double doors to the kitchen which I'm very keen to keep as kitchen is going to be narrow. We are mostly only going to have an L shaped sofa and one or two armchairs, some kind of unit for holding the sky/dvd box etc.

I’m having the same problem. I want to be able to see the garden, fire & TV. Have you tried this layout. I searched corner fireplace and it came up. You could have a modular sofa with a footstool instead of L shaped then it could be also used as a table/chair and footrest.

That does look nice but unfortunately our fireplace is between 2 walls with doors. It's quite frustrating! Not sure there is space to fit a TV in that area.

jn267, on the "no TV" question: I haven't had one since the mid-'80s and rarely watched it then. News came from radio and in print. Now I get it online, but I still select articles and avoid videos. I've always preferred music over extraneous "talking noise" at home and have never used TV as background, as many of my friends seem to do. The fact that I'm the world's worst multi-tasker may have something to do with it, but I don't think I do anything more interesting than anyone else does.

A couple of options:- I'd put the games table in the study as for me personally it has no place in the lounge / dining area and should be out of the way in a separate room. With the games table out of the way, you have more room for seating in the lounge area & the conservatory, which can then be opened up for larger gatherings :-

Regarding the fireplace, what type of fire are you thinking of having? If its a real wood fire of gas fire, then you may need to take into account a chimney/flue system. It looks like both options you have suggested have the fireplace in the original house and not in the planned extension, which means any flue/chimney would likely need to to run up through the house and may cause issues with the space above. There are some great options available when it comes to fires and stoves that might allow you to position the stove away from the wall and perhaps more central in the room. Double sided stoves with glass on opposite sides are good options when you have bi-folding doors as you can enjoy the ambience of the fire from both inside or outside.

If possible block the doors to the hallway have your TV there L shape sofa on the long wall and arm chairs facing the sofa or the TV just in front of patio doors.

Otherwise above the fireplace but it should be eye level, you don't want it to high as that's not great for your back or neck over time.

I do consultations, I could draw up some floorplans for you if you wanted and some elevations so you can see how it would all look etc.

There are lots of doors coming off this room so perhaps closing one is best option if it still works for the flow of the house. Or you move your kitchen door along or have a single door and have the TV between fireplace and new kitchen door.
