I agree that the kitchen units are in such good condition that it would be a shame to part ways with them. I suspect it is the 'matchyness' (if there is such a word) of the splashback tiles and the floor that is working against the classic units. Would you consider going darker with the floor? Am thinking slate effect type surface. You could then achieve a lighter, but i'm afraid not a white,  but as close to white as possible wall color without making the units look too creamy/yellow.

If that is a possibility, you could then just change the tiles to a mono tone to achieve a more streamlined pallette that is as close to the white kitchens which are now popular. Personally I feel that the cream gives a warmer, homelike feeling and is less clinical than the pure white kitchens currently being installed.

I was considering a herringbone style floor ore a darker tile in kardean flooring. The flooring laid now drives me mad it never looks clear. I think that type of vinyl the dirt gets caught in it over time. I've

I have cream units and we recently painted the walls F&B Oval Room Blue which despite the name is more a greeny blue. It’s quite a deep colour but not dark. Although it may be a little too similar to what you have? I would also change the tiles to an off white, not cream, in a thin metro tile placed in a stacked style as below, although they do have a hint of pink.

@sonia , i think your wall is a shade or two darker and it certainly goes well with the cream. The original pic seem to be a more pastel blue. It would certainly work well in the kitchen to make it a more modern scheme.
