Mixing black window frames with another colour?

Hi, We are about to undertake an extension / refurbishment project to our property and will be replacing all the window and doors.

D1, D2, W1 and W2 will be black aluminium windows and doors (heritage style). The entrance door and garage door are likely to be timber and the rest of the windows UPVC flush casement.

We are struggling with the external window colour for the UPVC units, and worried if we go all black they may look too dark, due to the larger section sizes of the UPVC.

External wall finishes will be a mixture of white cladding and render. We are considering white or light grey for the UPVC units?

Does anyone have any experience / thoughts regarding mixing window / door colours? Thank you

I think it may look a little odd. Sorry. A neighbour added an extension recently with different coloured windows and it jars for me.

When I look at the colours together I definitely lean towards lichen. I do however personally like a lighter colour with stone though so think I'm erring towards french gray, which is a great colour. I'd get some testers, they'll both look great. What was your husbands verdict, he seems to have been outnumbered?! I assume you need permission anyway to paint so there will be a long wait for pics?!

Hello Emmeline, I have black and a dark charcoal in the kitchen .. In the living room it's black and then a kind of greyish mauve which I make myself.. Most of the woodwork is painted with a colour I made myself.. My front door is charcoal by fired earth.. It's lovely with brass hardware.. :))

We have had almost all our "mahogany" UPVC windows and doors replaced with Aluclad windows in RAL 7044. This is an on going project and we still have a couple of the old windows which will eventually be replaced. I have painted these in a colour matched paint by Valspar. I washed the frames, applied two coats of primer/ undercoat and two coats of exterior wood/metal paint. I have also painted the front door. I am very pleased with the results. I just need the UPVC windows and front door to last a year or two longer before I am able replace them. Might be worth a try.
