Advice needed: stairs - is carpet on stairs the only option?
Comments (1)Ditto! Lol. Carpet is much quieter and safer (I've slid down my previous 'all wooden' steps before now!) but I hate it too. If you have good treads, I'd go for a stylish runner which looks nicer. Get a busy pattern ie stripes or funky geometries to keep the dirt less obvious....See MoreNeed advice for carpet colour on my stairs please - 1930s traditional
Comments (43)hi all, update is I have finally found a photo of someones stairs done in Brintons timorous beastie yellow Ruskin butterfly and its made me decide we are definitely 100% going for this as I love it (see attached pics) on stairs and landing... Floor in hall will be oak herringbone parquet, just wall colour to decide and we have bought new tall skirting so colour to paint this also? i have attcahed apic of the hall currently so you can see our front door with stain glass.. As Ive mentioned before the banister and spindles will be replaces with square spindles with an oak top banister and oak end cap - similar to this houzz pic ... So just to deicide on wall colour and new skirting colour... I really like f&b light blue in a hall with oak parquet but I don't feel this will go with the carpet... Kitchen and dining room will be one of the sage shades and lounge Wimborne white and downpipe......See MoreNeed advice for carpet colour
Comments (4)Have you thought of a subtle stripe. Contemporary Caramel Stripe is nice, have put this up stairs and landings in a couple of our renovations. It has some nice pale colours to pick up on should you wish to throw around a few accent colours elsewhere. If not go for something with warmth, but not completely plain, they can look drab and boring. Harvest natural berber twist is very hard wearng, has a vague fleck in it, great for stairs and nice and warm to look at , plush to walk on !The pair also work well as stripe on hall, landing and stairs with berber twist in all bedrooms. !...See MoreAdvice for staircases carpet or runners?
Comments (4)Hi Maggie. We are doing the same but have been fortunate enough to have an interior designer friend who has given us great advice: - Ground to 1st floor stairs: runner with taped sides and carpet rods. This carpet is different to all of the others and finishes at the top step. -1st floor landing, stairs from 1st to 2nd and 2nd floor landing in a dark grey carpet all the way to the edge as far as possible - better for hiding marks, wear etc. These areas don't 'normally' have runners. - All bedrooms except master are in a lighter grey. - Master bedroom in a slightly more luxurious carpet. I hope that helps a little. I really wouldn't worry about having different carpets on the stairs. The ground floor stairs are normally a little more elaborate as this is what you see on entering the house. Good luck with it all....See MoreSonia
