I found a manufacturer called 'Kasthall' http://www.kasthall.com/en/products who make beautiful rugs of the type I was looking for but they are pricey (5k). I ended up not being able to stomach that and opted for (as suggested by Man About The House and Carolina) a Louis de Poortere carpet, which they bound/edged for me. https://www.louisdepoortere.be/miuccia.html The carpet is very thin, comfortable and high quality and it ended up being much cheaper than a rug (£1500). Thanks for the suggestions - you were spot on.

I’d go for a soft neutral colour, the red makes a big enough statement by itself. A silvery grey would be nice, you could add some very small pops of red around the room, like a red flower on a grey cushion, for example :)

I have sisal on stairs and I love it. However, I wouldn't use it in a living area with children, it stains. Would you consider huge format tiles in a warm neutral with a slight texture? With underfloor heating and rugs they would look smart and be really practical and not jar with the others possibly? Or as rinked says just use the same. I see Rocket St George as dark and glam and White Company light and airy and Cornish and Neptune as a kind of mix of the two.
