Help with window choice please!
Hi there. We are going to replace the windows on our house on the right. We will either re render and paint in a light stone colour or add fibre cement cladding in similar colour. I like the windows the neighbours have chosen (they are fully rendering their property) but I’m concerned about the amount of divides across the windows. I also love the dark grey, however I’m not sure if it’s safer to choose white. We have been considering grey for a while but they are a lot more expensive and now I’m concerned it may look like we are trying to keep up with the Jones’s which we would miserable fail at as they are completely overhauling their property and we are just tidying ours up. We may rebuild our porch too or knock it down and we’ll also add a new, probably anthracite grey front door.
*My concern is if we go flush sash like neighbours it will cut out too much light?
*We won’t have any small openings at the top to vent.
*If we go grey will it date quickly or look wrong for the 60’s property?
*Should we go white flush sash maybe instead?
*Or a different layout all together?
P.S we would brick up the bottom window in matching bricks to keep size same as neighbour if we had their style window.

Comments (12)You don't state if you are planning to keep the existing worktop and tiles. If these are to remain I would consider replacing Welvet with Strong White ( this works really well in a smaller spaces with dark worktops) for the ceilings and woodwork, use the Ammonite on the walls with Oval Room Blue on the cupboards and Worsted on the floor. Or if you prefer a more versatile more neutral approach which allows you to change accent colours without a major rework you could paint the floor using F&B Railings ( or use a similar colour stain to show the wood grain through which would add some interest) and paint the cupboards either Cornforth white or Purbeck stone. Comments (5)You definitely haven't got the whole lot wrong. I think it looks a very smart room. I like the shape and colour of your sofas and think they look great with the curtain/cushion fabric. Likewise I think the rug is a really good colour. I wouldn't change colour but if I you really pushed me I'd say get a bigger size (poss more about me than you! I've always kicked myself for not going larger with rug in my living room). Again if I was splitting hairs I'd say the colour of the units (TV, side tables etc) is not quite right. It's a bit too warm beigey for the other colours in there. So I'd maybe consider painting those either darker, cool undertone colour or maybe even the cream/white shade you've got on radiator wall/alcoves....See More

2 years agoI went through this exact same issue a couple of months ago on our renovation - choosing the windows was a complete nightmare of constant changes. We ended up with these which I absolutely love. I’m still not convinced about the loss of the little openers in terms of security and ventilation but I decided on aesthetics over practicality. Only time will tell if I made the right choice!!
