They look really good. On the pictures they look slightly green rather than lilac. I would live with them for a while and see if you warm to them.

Your kitchen is terrific and the paint looks a decent shade but is wrong for the room. I would paint the cupboards white or a more slate-grey. The rug is ok but the room would look better without it.

I quite like the paint shade. I'm not really loving the yellow rug with it. Is it worth exchanging the rug with a purply shade or even a muted blue that may go with the cupboards. I can't see the lilac shade, but it looks good to me.

I think the kitchen looks great, no hint of purple showing up on my screen. However, it does change with different lights throughout the day, and also with different bulb types in the pendants, i'm sure. I agree, the rug needs to go and i'd also change the toaster and kettle to match the sink so that they don't conflict with the cupboards and blend more. I think your cupboards and pendant lights look great together. You can also paint little terracotta plant pots with the same paint as the cupboards, so that you can dot them around on the shelves for holding stuff, and tie in bits and bobs that way. Looks wonderul x

Funnily enough, I am thinking about British Standard in deep blue for my new kitchen units, and like you I have been chickening out. Thinking of going a shade of green as it might be easier on the eye. I note nobody suggested your original idea of deep blue would have been preferable. I still think Hague Blue would be very smart with the white metro tiles and oak floor though.

@HH I was just about to say the same thing! A rug is a 'death-trap' in that position!

As for the colour of the kitchen, if you want to make the cabinets look less lilac, get some lilac accessories and a lilac blind. My bet is that they'll look the colour you intended them to be in contrast to a real lilac colour!

Wouldn't say the rug is death trap, although, a cheap thin rug can curl at the edges and you could trip. However, they are just plain impractical in small kitchen. If you're anything like my wife, she can drop, break or spill anything! It wouldn't stay clean for more than five minutes!

E D..Small rug loose on a floor, pans of boiling water/ Sunday roast being carried across...living on the edge or just plain silly!

French Grey is a lovely colour, I'd live with it for a while and the rug colour may be skewing it a little. I'd add a Roman blind to soften things, style it up a bit and see how you go. On the rug front - I think they are fine in a kitchen. Kitchens often had rugs but now it's frowned upon for some reason but they seem to be making a come-back I'm pleased to say as they add a lovely, comfortable homely feel. Find something washable, ideally a pattern, use underlay to anchor/stick it down if you're worried about slips and trips (depends on weight of rug). Size-wise, don't run it too close to units to avoid worst spills etc. The new synthetic indoor/outdoor rugs will work well or a washable cotton.

My mum moved the rug from her kitchen because it got wet and she did not notice, so it damaged the oiled wood floor beneath. Also, she tripped on one day.

I think your kitchen units are lovely. It is tasteful and subtle and you won't tire of the colour. If you like dark blue, how about a dark blue, flat weave, solid, non slip rug with the same colour of accessories and even a wall in the dark colour, if that is possible? My kitchen is grey with dark blue/grey walls and accessories and glassware in dark blues and greens and it seems to work.
