Need ideas for my staircase
Comments (10)Hello pl_smith, I like the sound of that! :)) Well you can try a few places... get some samples and see what feels right.. There's a company called http://www.nakedflooring.co.uk/ or http://www.alternativeflooring.com/collection/naturals There is also 1 I found from the link Minnie sent you http://www.floormats.co.uk/stairtreads/stair-treads-rectangular-1/sisal-stair-tread-sets This doesn't have a fabric or leather boarder but looks woven like you mentioned earlier.... The best examples I found were from Natural Home Rugs which is an American site as they have the boarder I mentioned. I am certain though that you will be able to have the same thing produced here if you like it. What I would do is give several places a ring and explain what you're looking for and get some quotes... May be that you can get some discount on quantity.... I think Naked Flooring is a good place to ask. Coir is a favourite Superior black sisal weft is one I have asked for before, and I do remember discussing boarder colours for a rug I had made for a client. I think it was the same place but it was a year ago.. : ))...See MoreIdeas & Advise Needed (Lounge)
Comments (2)The carpet is unusual in this day and age of neutrals but I like it. I would treat the two sections of the room differently, darker and embracing the blue on tv end and a very large light rug at the window end. There is a change in level causing a natural break. And I’ve got a crazy thought that I’d paint the good condition ceiling near windows in gloss! I know, risking ridicule! But if you search here on Houzz for gloss ceilings you can see fab examples where gloss ceilings near windows give a reflection that creates a feeling of a double height space. Not the ceiling of the tv end though. However, I admit I have “clever” ideas like this that I try out and then have to re do since they didn’t work out! Anyway, good luck :)...See Morerenovating open riser staircase
Comments (2)thanks, Sonia. I agree, and painting is probably what we'll do even if we replace spindles etc. They need work/replacing as they are loose, and pretty poor quality. Love the contrast banister and one option is to paint the stair risers in a charcoal or similar....See MoreOpen plan ideas please!
Comments (14)Hi Bambi T, glad you like the idea although not sure it’s possible if WC stays where it is. Obviously you don’t want the WC leading directly off your kitchen or walk-through dining space but the alternative (baring in mind I don’t have the dimensions to affirmatively judge) is a tiny room within a tiny room with steps, so at best it presents as a weak resolution to the problem. Also, your new airbnb annex will increase the demand on your domestic laundry provision so it seems unwise to settle for anything less than what you already have (although my suggestion needs to be scaled to confirm whether it can work as a revised utility space). Your current plans for the annex look really smart and logical and ‘reading between the lines’ so to speak, I cannot see any obvious wins for an alternative connection to the main house, although this is a personal (non-architectural) opinion based on limited contextual evidence so I would heartily encourage you to take some professional advice for ‘peace of mind’. Wishing you the very best outcome for your project. L...See More- 4 years ago
