Try adding a Jali.co.uk radiator cover and bookcase under the tv - you can go on their website and design them to suit the size of the radiator and make the shelving match - for all your gadgets and DVDs etc - will look neater !!!

Hi Elan, the old way of thinking is that radiators would be ideally placed under windows to take advantage of the natural convection that the draught from the window would create and because the window is already a wasted space in design terms anyway. However, as many others here have said, with the advent of double and now triple glazed windows, the effects of draughts is minimal. I see that you have positioned it under the window anyway and we would recommend this in most instances as you are less likely to block the heat with furniture and it is more likely to heat your room efficiently if it is placed under a window. Just bear in mind that long curtains draped over the top will be incredibly inefficient practice - as you would lose heat through your window (double glazed or not) and remember that if you are using Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs) with your radiator, be sure that you turn them up gradually as this will help to adequately heat your room and be more efficient in the long run. Turning them right up to the top will not heat your room quicker, as that depends upon the quality of your boiler and the quality of your radiator itself. Its unlikely anything you hang will get damaged because its indirect heat. That said you could use tin foil to back the art and use pin nails in each corner to 'lift' the piece from the wall slightly (so it appears to float a little). Usually the majority of the heat comes from the fire/stove itself rather than through the chimney - installing a mantle of some kind (if there's not one in place already) will cut the heat dramatically in the area above.
