Help! Kitchen splash back advice needed

Hi, i am having a new kitchen fitted hopefully in a couple of months and i am currently looking at kitchens etc. i think i am buying my kitchen from DIY kitchens but buying my worktop from elsewhere.

i am wanting a splashback along the back wall with the hob and this is 3600mm long. i really like a worktop from the axiom range (elemental concrete) but the splashback is 3570 long, 30mm to short!!

Will i have to pay for a second splashback (£350) for 30mm or is there something else that can be done?

Any advice?

I have to confess it’s a nuisance when manufacturers produce worktops in one size and then upstands and splashbacks in another.

If you are having the splashback all the way along the wall which will also go behind the hob you could have something different behind the hob which would give you the additional length you require.

Usual hobs are 600 although some are 900mm. Perhaps have a contrast behind the hob?

Premier Range have a webiste with some lovely options on. Bearing in mind you have chosen a neutral light grey you could successfully have anything with a hint of colour.

Thanks Daisy, our hob will be 900 and the splashback is 1200 tall so will have some waste from the cutouts. Can you join 2 splashbacks together? As we could get another splashback and use instead of upstand.

Personally I wouldn't go with a yellow splash back. Not because it wouldn't go but more that you already have enough of that accent colour around the room, over do it and it can look forced. There is a fine line between getting the balance right were it looks classy and going over board to the point it looks naff. Personally I would either go for a splash back that is colour matched to the walls or a smoked mirror. You are limited in some ways because it appears there wasn't any forward planning with regards to splash backs. Any splash backs would need to be confined to the width of the extractor because your curved wall units won't open otherwise. They would have to be packed off the wall if you wanted to go full width splash back. I would recommend a durable matt paint in the kitchen. Good quality ones will withstand washing without polishing up and showing tell tell marks where they've been washed. Little Greenes Intelligent Matt is perfect for this and is our choice of paint when not using any further splash backs above the granite upstands. I understand a colour matched glass splash back or smoked mirror may seem like the safe option and boring to some, but there is no point in being brave just for the sake of it. You've got plenty of other points of interest in the room with regards to colour without having to push it too far. Let the kitchen itself be a subtle canvas to show off other items rather than fight with them for attention would be my advice.

I'd keep the worktops as pale as possiible, quartz is a good choice, maybe with a little silver or grey fleck. Adding another colour with regards tiles is going to be difficult as you've already got a strong accent colour with the red appliances. Adding yet another on top may be a mistake. Maybe you could go for a red glass splashback and upstands? Or, red metro tiles with grey grout? Dark Grey metro tiles would look very classy. I personally think that the same rule applies as for decorating walls etc. Plain is best and use accessories to add colour. When you get bored with the colour combo you can very easily change accessories for a whole new look. Remember you'll be looking at the kitchen for possibly 10 years, will you always love grey and red? If you stick to the pale grey / dark grey and ivory pallette, then you can change the kettle, toaster, cannisters as many times as you like from red, to turquoise, back to ivory, green etc, but once you put tiles on the wall it's a lot more expensive to change when you've gone off the colour. I only tiled my kitchen around 4 years ago and i'm sick of looking at it already, and i positively hate my black granite worktops.

Behind your range i'd use a stainless steel sheet, Ebay's cheap, but just google stainless steel sheet, available cut to size all over the place. This one for instance is quite a size 2000mmx1000mm Ebay ( Stainless Sheet ). You can then use the car paint and the metal will take the heat as will the paint. Saw an article on Apartment Therapy talking about mirrored splashbacks recently. Had some lovely photos featured, I personally preferred the options where the glass is raised up from the hob slightly. Could you maybe get a piece of the upstand cut to fill the gap? Also having it 'framed' by wall either side looks better to me than it spanning the whole space. I've mocked it up to extractor fan level and to ceiling level (I've guesstimated the tile scale but hope it gives you the idea).
