Nothing like a handle to get a better grip. Greasy hands and knobs (depending on the design of the knob) sometimes make gripping difficult. Going handleless design always solves this problem.

I would really like to use just knobs but I wanted 3cm disc shaped knobs which I think could be hard to use on the fridge freezer and dishwasher

You can combine both : knobs + cup handles, it is very common. It is very important to use high quality product since you will use it very very often... Here are some examples of quality cup handles in very reasonable prices:

Remember that knobs and handles are always useful as temporary hooks for things like carrier bags and stuff which is air drying etc.

Some knobs can be very impractical and spin over time with heavy use,  as a result I wouldn't personally recommend them in such a practical room as a kitchen.

If you're contemplating knobs, then I can heartily recommend Crofts & Assinder - my "go to" for stunningly beautiful, comfortable knobs in a range of styles & finishes.

The latter, at 38mm, with its gently curved underside is supremely comfortable & easy to use, even on heavy dishwasher & fridge doors.

Both, though, come with matching handles or cups, should you prefer.

And for what it is worth - I see no problem saving a handle for just the doors you suggest. We've been asked to do this in the past, and it has looked fine.

In the same boat and need to decide in 48 hours. I chose knobs and cups but now worried that my tall units which are housing larder, fridge and freezer will be too heavy with just a knob. The door are split in two but will be working as a whole door. so even more confused on whether I put two knobs for the visual or just one.

@Sandy mullane, I would ordinarily opt still for two knobs, even though you'll only tend to use one. Visually it is the better option, and for the cost of a couple of knobs...

As long as the knob is of a suitable size and "comfy" enough, there should be know issue with the weight of fridge or freezer.

Handles are more modern looking & lots of choice. Also agree easier to use.

thank you so much for your answers they have helped enormously. Another question: I have gone for the knobs as once they arrived they seemed comfortable to pull. the bank of units, is a pull out pantry, freezer, fridge and then pull out pantry. Would you put the knobs all at the end or the pull out ones in the middle of the doors. The kitchen fitter said the end of the visual but logic if pulling out makes me think it should go in the middle?

Decisions, decisions! In such a layout, we would often have gone with a tall unit with internal drawers instead of a "pullout", so would have had a hinged door, which makes it simpler!

Three choices:

1) Go for a "pair" of knobsleft & right, so opening the cupboard is done with two hands (not so ideal)

2) Go with a singe, centrally placed knob BUT you need to ensure that the position of ALL knobs in the row are positined in the same horizontal axis! Often with knobs the position is in line with the seam of the centre panel, so you can't then place a central knob without it looking odd. Take care to keep consistency throughout your kitchen!

3) For just those two doors, go with a cup or "D" handle centrally positioned. This will still look good and remains single handed opening.

thank you, I am usually good with deciding but for some reason I have gone into a sprial, probably because until units are actually up its hard to visualise, then you have to make the decision quickly. I did think about the cup handles but as it is so visible it just looked odd. The fitter said he would put the fridge/freezer ones on first then I can have a look. thank you for the alignment tip, i would hope he would do but I will just double check its in position before he drills.

No worries, Sandy - the devil is always in the detail! Even a good fitter can get caught out on the fine details like this, as they are often thinking in terms of "next steps" rather than the cohesiveness of all parts of the design. We would normally go through this with a client at detailed design stage prior to installation, BUT we always leave final decisions to be confirmed at time of fit with the client, as often there is some last tweaking, like here.

As always, check twice, drill once - those doors aren't cheap!
