Small narrow hallway
Our house has a small narrow entrance hall and I’m struggling with storage. I’m thinking a slim shoe cabinet maybe wall hung? But worried about putting a coat rack as it may look messy any suggestions on what to do with the coats? Also the radiator is quiet long, was thinking of either putting a small one or maybe a vertical one with a mirror if i can find it. please help

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoThe narrowness of the hallway is the problem and the radiator is as flat as they can be! It would narrow the hallway if you replaced it with a radiator shelf (unless it is very narrow).
If you don't have any cupboard space in the other rooms or under the stairs, the wall space just under the window and to the left of the photo for wall hung storage.
Sorry, can't draw straight lines here (photo below) but you can see where there might be enough space for a narrow wall coat rack on the wall to the left of the photo.
Wall coat rack lower down for kids coats and jackets (photo). Placing the mirror on the left by stairs to reflect the light from the window.
Or use a mirror with shelves behind it as shown here:
Under the window, use hanging baskets for shoes - something like the ones in Amazon.

Comments (16)Hello Adam, Any electrician could do this job for you (installing led lighting), yes the strip lights and you actually don't need coving for it. It depends what is your style when decorating your home, is it Traditional, Minimalist, Contemporary, etc? Once you know what your style/styles are your favourite it's much easier to go from there. Comments (37)we have a similar hallway, although there is bend between the front and back room and then a back extension kitchen; the front door faces north. We have been through several incarnations regarding light. starting outside, we have a porch light, which helps to light the hall at night (if we use the override switch). the colours are portland pale above dado, and their darker shade below. woodwork Portland Pale too (eggshell)I would recommend leaving the dado in , it breaks up the tall wall and I am always hitting the walls with shopping and stuff and it is easier to paint over anglypta and it doesn't show the scuffs. All the paint is matt or eggshell, including skirtings/dado, so nothing jumps out at you it all recedes. we have a long mirror on the front part wall and a squarer one of the back so we get bounced light. Mirrors match and come from habitat. The door at the end of the hall is small glass pannelled to get the south light coming to the front of the house. The lighting is recessed into the ceiling and supplemented with pendant. We had the attic done and had a dome put in the top floor which floods light down into the first and ground floor. Comments (10)Hello Laura, I think a pendant light could be lovely.. What about a Fiorella light by Nigel Coates for Slamp available at his site. www.nigelcoates.com. It's rather lovely and has a family of other lighting options to go with.. Table lamps in two sizes and also wall light... You could paint the inside of the front door to give it some depth and think of interesting textures perhaps on the artwork idea.. See below.. For colours I thought earthy tones such as those in the canvas could work beautifully with a natural rug and you can layer these colours as you like from the pale in the sky to the earth colours to create the neutral glamour/Scandinavian you like... : )) A lovely convex oval mirror such as this one would be nice over the shoe storage.. We are really stuck on how to make the hallway/cloakroom a better space for entering the home and storing coats and shoes. It currently feels very small and unwelcoming. The hallway is very narrow (0.9m x 3m) whilst the cloakroom is larger (1.1m x 2.1m). The dividing wall is probably load bearing. Any ideas would be hugely appreciated!...See More

Hi, this is the floor plan, as you can see there isnt much space but i think we may be able to create an understairs storage in the dining room, and have nice doors that hopefully wont look out of place

I saw this pic in another thread and really liked it, its identical to my hallway, im now thinking of creating an understairs storage in the dining room and basically doing something like this with the corridor with a bigger mirror and more flush light
