That photo does look good, the two don't clash at all. I can't afford real wood flooring. I will either be having new laminate or engineered wood flooring, neither of which are something I would want in a kitchen. I also don't feel comfortable having something I feel would be more difficult to clean than tiles. It's a kitchen diner which opens onto our unusually wet and muddy garden. I have two children who create lots of mess. Just yesterday my eldest spilled some sort of hideous red goo all over the cream carpet upstairs! My other option is some sort of blue geometric patterned tiled floor. I haven't been able to find many affordable options so would probably only be able to do half of the room, depending on the way it is designed. Do any more affordable options exist? I found the optiks tiles at topps tiles which are just under £70 a square metre, so still too expensive for me. They are also quite a light blue and I'd prefer something darker. Are there any other options around?

Hi Gabby - yes I noticed that as well re the notifications!! Ridiculous! Maybe there is something in settings that stops that otherwise I will just have to unfollow everyone, urgh. Whats the name of the one you liked from the samples? There was some nice Karndean BUT they were well out of our price range so it always depends on your budget of course. We wanted a warm but neutral floor and this one looks both warm and cool sometimes. Originally I wanted a rich warm floor to balance out the grey but the orange tones clashed with the units and made them look too blue/retro so we decided to go with this one instead.

Hello, We love a natural wood flooring in the kitchen, the main issue with it is staining. Fat spiting out from the frying pan, or if you spill a drink over (red wine especially) you will just have to except this, unlike a porcelain tile that is easy to wipe clean. Have you looked at the wood effect porcelain tiles? Some of them that have the grain texture are very convincing. I would suggest taking a look at karndean flooring, its a luxury vinyl tile (LVT). This offers a natural look, easy to clean and also offers a little more protection if you dropped glasses, they have more of a chance of surviving. Good look with you project. LVT itself isn't particularly well-insulating, nor is it heat-conducting the same way as concrete would be. I've not laid it on a solid ground floor, only on suspended wood floors (intermediate floors - 1st and 2nd floor flats). And also ... I used hard vinyl planks (waterproof click vinyl, ~5mm thick), not stick-down flexible LVT (which is slightly thinner). To me at least, it feels slightly warmer than HDF-backed laminate or engineered wood (as laid in the same flats / same subfloor), but that may be because it is softer to the touch than those. I wouldn't expect wonders. Could you get a sample plank to try - put it down overnight and get an idea how it feels underfoot ?
