Comments (6)Hi, I don't think I would change to a dark grey as the white gives the house a lighter look. The day room yellow from farrow and ball - pictured - should look lovely, the yellow is a great choice and should give off a happy and welcoming vibe. I am not an expert of gardening I am afraid but personally I would go low bed (to open up the views of and from the balcony) and try and get some of the yellow in to balance it. I hope this helps but do feel free to contact us if you need anything else. All the best, Gina...See Moreshould we do fence of hedge in front of our small front garden.
Comments (16)Nice job on the house. Looks very smart:) Personally I prefer to see a hedge in a front garden but with a low wall in front to prevent soil/debris from spilling out on the pavement. Griselinia littoralis has beautiful evergreen apple green foliage that would look lovely against the house, fast growing and can kept trimmed to about eyelevel and 2ft thick. Plus there are many other plants that can be used as hedging depending on your requirements. Yew and privet are also good choices as these can be kept neat and tidy, although privet requires more regular trimming. Your cheapest option however is probably going to be fencing as this will require less ground work. A low wall approx 1ft high will not need much foundation work so also reducing cost. Hedges will need a certain amount of soil preparation but this is something that can easily be done by yourself. I’d ask a few local landscape gardeners to give you a few rough ideas on cost....See MoreAny ideas for the front house makeover?

If you go for a tone that makes the white pop, you’ll also be able to keep it cleaner for longer where any weather wear won’t show as much. It is becoming wider as it appears to already have had a crown reduction so the side tips are currently the active area of growth. You have tried to reduce the width by cutting the sides hard back but the dead Underwood is now visible. This area will not regrow. The hedge does give you a good screening from the other properties around and it will be a big change removing it. However the hedge is not going to improve by further pruning so removing it will inevitably have to be done. You need to decide how much screening you wish to have when it’s gone. A fence would provide some and with layered planting in your front garden you could create a far more attractive screen. Go for it!...See More- 3 years ago
