What an amazing forum this is. Do hope you have a clearer picture by now. I adore your splashback, it must not be relegated to a utility room. Buy more of the same for that! Perhaps you could frame an extra piece as art in another area. I've painted my kitchen cupboards in 'Hebridean Mist' which goes so well with the slate floor tiles, then a pink fridge freezer and pink edged worktop tiles tie in well. I like to add a little bit of matching colour from one room to another room, moving through the house like that. It givers synergy to all my rooms, none of which are the same colour, but all of which have a hint of another room. Anthology is a fabulous site to look at for lighting. Wayfair has a gorgeous orange glass globe light I want badly! I actually adore the combination of orange, shades of grey, white and black. A simple thing like 1 Cygnus Papilios cushion by Alex Goode can pass one colour into another room.

I would suggest going for the plain reddish/pink throw with the rose/floral pattern cushion. Keep it to just those colours as you don't want it to look too mismatched as that could give your small room a cluttered feel. To add some glamour easily, I would recommend more lighting in the form of some candles and also perhaps some fairy lights around the window would add something extra to the window alcove.

I agree with Jonathan, make sure you have dimmers so that you can vary the level of lighting. You need to consider different layers of lighting; pendants and downlighters will throw light down, whilst uplights either on the floor or walls will throw light up and illuminate the lovely beams you have. And don't forget lamps will throw another dimension in. Having the ability to vary these using dimmers gives you lots of versatility to create different moods depending on what you are using the space for. You may want to use some spotlights that you can angle to wash light down the walls or highlight a picture. If you can stretch to it, a system like Lutron gives you greater flexibility over what you can achieve with your lights. It's basically a super-duper, all-singing dimmer switch that can allow you to program different moods according to how you are using the room. For example, when eating in your dining room you may want some downlighters on a low setting providing a background ambient light whilst the feature lighting (ie. pendant &/or picture lights) are slightly brighter. It's the combination that will make it much more warm & inviting. Have a look at books by Sally Storey of John Cullen lighting (or their website) for more inspiration. Your 3rd picture was of Bocci 14 lights. These come individually or in groups (some custom made installations of these involving hundreds look absolutely incredible, with a price tag to match!). The actual dimensions of each ball though is only 10cm, so you may find you need quite a few to give you enough light & wow factor. Hi all guess what the bathroom still isn't finished but I put some accessories in it and it is already looking quite different. The photo doesn't do it justice it looks better in real life. It looks quite pleasing to the eye. Unfortunately I have bigger problems than how it looks. Do any plumbers know if this shower is access compliant? It has no cut-out or thermostat. You have to control the shower with the bath taps so there is a high risk of scalding. Considering this is a specialist company for mobility I find this pretty shocking. You can't shut off the water other than the taps. Also the temperature fluctuates as there is no thermostat. This is the pipework and electrics below does anyone know if this is legal? See how near the pipes are to the cables??? It seems a bit precarious to me. I am worried about the cables getting hot or wet. Thanks everyone for your support and wish you all a Happy Christmas.
