Have you thought of rearranging the furniture so the tv isn't the focal point? Furniture against walls can make a room appear smaller. If the budget permits I would add a coffee table to bring furniture into the middle of the room. I would also add a mirror to the dining area to bounce light and maybe install a low hanging pendant light over the table. I would also choose a neutral coloured rug as using a single colour for an item becomes the focal point. Grey is a good modern neutral for walls. If you want to use paper on a smaller wall choose a small pattern that won't date unless you don't mind repapering to keep it up to date. There are some really fantastic papers around at the moment such as chinoiserie, bold contemporary and typography but it depends on your preferred style? Maybe use plain (not patterned as this may date or your taste will change) velvet or silk curtains to soften the room. Use different colours and textures for the accessories to avoid block colours as per comment above. Pattern/interest can also be added in the form of wall art.

This will look lovely! I personally would stick with white over beige, even with beech, but that's my preference. Grey will look good on top, as long as it's not too dark. Grey and white looks better than grey and beige I think. And you can always stain the furniture if you don't like the way it looks when it's done?

Guys, please help!! Is it just me so something is still off??..is everything too bland...? Today we have received our rug and some other accessories.. and it seems that cushions and a throw are too much, so will return those...and will use light purple throw. But for some reason I have a feeling that something isn't just right..have I gone completely mad?.. Please let me know what you think of this..! And apologies about the dog, he just loves being in a centre of everything :) thank you!!!!

I’m not sure if this is your kind of thing or what colours you like etc. I quite like the different blues together for the chair and sofa but the chair also comes in primrose and mustard. I’d add a yellow/mustard cushion/s for the sofa anyway. The coffee table is actually a burnished gold but the pic isn’t very good. I like the shelves idea, I’d add the chair here angled towards the sofa. The last pic is an Ikea hack of kitchen units just as an idea for the tv, their horizontal units should be about the right viewing height if floated. I’d have a floor lamp one side of the sofa and tray table and lamp the other. I’d probably just go a lighter shade of the wall colour for curtains but depends on chair colour etc. The cushion is from bluebell gray and they’ve got some lovely things if it’s your style
