Walls will be neutral depending on sofa. Grey or cream.

I think no 6 as it is picked up in the painting. I would also consider black depending on your natural light levels. It might not be so practical though. No 5 the grey might also work well.

Apologies for that. I read it as a grey. Its a good colour though, quite neutral I'm sure it would compliment the painting.

If the photos are accurate, I would say 6.

I think number 6, which looks a mossy green, would go very well. However iPads and iPhones do not always show colours perfectly, for example number 5 looks grey on my screen on both pictures.

I’d say 6 or 7 . If the walls are light/neutral the dark sofa would be a lovely dramatic pop against the gorgeous painting behind.

Lovely piece you have there. I would suggest 7/8/10 for a bold, dark statement space.

Alternatively, I really love the contrast of neutral and pastel pinks with soft grey. If you perhaps choose a light grey sofa with neutral and pastel pink/blush cushions and accessories, would you consider reframing the painting in white for a more subtle, contemporary look. The colours look more

I disagree - the painting is so dramatic and eye-catching in its own right that any 'popping' sofa is going to detract from that. The mossy shade of No 6 would work well, or possibly No 2 or No 8 - the inky tones pick up on the detailing in the painting, without overwhelming it. Is that black line above it part of the frame ? if so, then you could get away with a black sofa (but I personally wouldn't choose that because of all the dust/crumbs/clothing fibres that would show up. In the (fairly unlikely) event of you finding a sofa shade to match the golden/ochre colour, exactly, and wanted a statement piece, then I might go with that. The softer green might work, too, but I'm picking that up as grey on my screen. Do show us the finished result !

I agree no 7 will work well from your selection but tonally they are all very grey and merge into your stunning piece of art. I would suggest something much brighter and bolder to highlight the gold accents. Maybe look at a deep yellow ochre or other jewel tones. I think that will add a much more interesting dimension. I think most of the suggestions above could work. It really would depend on the rest of the decor. I would need to see the rest of the room, before I could have an idea.

This is the room now. Tv lounge area. About to paint . Needs a new carpet, and sofa. Will replace cushions and curtains once I lock down new scheme. It must live with our other part of living room which is more conversational by fireplace .

This is the other adjacent room which is not changing other than the 2 throw pillows and paint.

Your last two pics just show how important it is to see the whole room as it is. Sometimes things don’t need changing. Your room is lovely as it is, unless you definitely want to change the sofa.

The sofa needs replacement. The springs have gone in a section and the carpet it tired and dirty ( even after rug shampoo). So definitely time for a refresh .

Thank you to everyone on the sofa colour suggestions. I went with a colour “Valley” I had a sample but the sofa is a lot more teal than I expected but learning to accept it. I still need to source big throw pillows. Just using some I had on hand for the moment.

Plenty of ideas have been batted around for this thread, so thank you for sharing the final result. I still feel that maybe I'd have gone for new, deep ochre for the curtains, to tie it all in. If you're bothered about the 'teal-ness' of the sofa, perhaps you could change that balck-edged frame for the painting to one which matched the sofa ? Double win !
