It does look like it has a lot of potential. I would think about converting the bedroom/office into the utility room. I would then bring the kitchen wall out so that it almost follows the same line as the wall between the existing utility and office (maybe right a bit so you don’t have to move the dining room door) and then knock the new bigger kitchen and existing utility together to make a big kitchen diner. You can then do what you want with the existing dining room. Maybe make it into another guest bedroom/office with a small shower room on the right if that would be useful (probably no toilet though depending on plumbing). I would block off the door from the existing dining room to kitchen. You would lose (or maybe just need to reconfigure) the log burner but can’t see it’s usefulness in the current location anyway. I can certainly see why you are drawn to it!

This is the existing upstairs floor plan. At the moment there are 2 big rooms and a small bedroom and a spare room which only has a velux window. There’s also a shower room which isn’t very functional as it’s too small and thin. Ideally we would like a family bathroom upstairs and would like the small bedroom to be a bit bigger. Again we can’t quite figure out the best layout.

Hi Faye, this is an interesting one, than you for posting! If the house was mine, I would investigate to see whether the walls can be moved. If this could be an option I would think of extending the left bathroom wall so I could move the bathroom where your kitchen currently is, so I could have a bigger kitchen (inclusive of utility room). i this way the bathroom will be accessible from the corridor. please let me know if this makes sense! I'd try simple things like losing the high cupboards between the hob and the window? Try and open it up... Light colour on the walls too. Nothing wrong with a galley kitchen - plenty of workspace!
