I think I would look for slimmer toy storage either side of the window. Shelves if you cannot find a shallower unit than the kallax. The sofa could face the door. You could also add a soft upholstered chair/snuggler in front of the window between the shelves. I would look for a larger much softer rug, berber style. That would provide a soft play area. I know the kallax is 400 deep. If you don't want to change the shelving turn it the other side up and place it on the right of the window.

Thank you for your reply. That sounds a good suggestion, only we do need a tv somewhere really. They do spend some of the day watching tv. I will defo try move the sofa to where the kallax is just to get a feel for the space laid out that way.

I think given the colour and depth of the sofa I would keep it as is.

The only place for a tv would be above the kallax unless you did move the sofa and have the tv in the corner between door and window but see what you prefer.

if the tv went above the kallax where it is now I would consider a box frame with the tv on a swing out bracket hung just above the kallax.

I’d get white rattan, canvas etc storage boxes for the kallax so it all blends into the wall.

Consider a plug in wall light by the sofa and a storage coffee table like this could work, just use a cover for messy arts and crafts.

Perhaps a patterned roman blind on a white background for the window, pick up one of the colours for a cushion

You could add art around the tv or to the right of the sofa and perhaps replace the centre downlight for a pendant

@minnie101 thank you, some good suggestions there. I like the idea of that table actually and a cover for crafts. I do have a red ikea table set in there now (had it previously) and thought I needed to keep that for years but actually I could still make it a grown up room with kids stuff too. Totally over looking at the chunky red table and chairs set 😂
