Agreeable Gray Cabinets

Selecting paint for walls in a new build. I made the crazy mistake of selecting Agreeable Gray cabinets since I love it so much on the walls. I now can't find a wall color. Can anyone recommend a lighter version of Agreeable?

I suggest you get these four colors to test in your space. It's a good range of colors that are very similar to Agreeable Gray, just lighter.

Resist advice to have the formula cut. It's always better to find an existing paint color that aligns with the color you want adjusted.

Mainly because you can get chips and then samples. When you cut a formula, the can is yours whether you like it or not.

Lori - thank you so much. I JUST found your Agreeable Gray 50% video last night. I already had White Heron pinned to my wall in a large swatch. It does seem to lean a bit yellower than I expected. I am purchasing a sample of Zurich today. Can't thank you enough for this guidance. I have paid two paint consultants who both have said Pure White when I said I don't want flat white. It's sort of a nightmare!

Thanks again for all your comments. Particularly helpful to be alerted to socket issue. I took these pics before the builder replaced the sockets with some nice chrome ones. (see new pics) However, he's still got them in the wrong place. Will raise that today. He hasn't actually finished the hood area in these pictures - as I stopped him. But also the chimney extractor doesn't seem to be functioning so it needs to come down anyway. This solves this problem and we can tile behind it - although I'm still worried that he's not going to be able to redo the job well enough. I've added some more pics with better light. Still finishing the floor and just have to adjust and tweak a few things but (apart from tiling) nearly there! The kitchen is Howdens Burford Grey, Pure White Quartz from Master Quartz (not been impressed with this as marking so easily with pans, belt buckles, any kind of grime - but probably shouldn't have chosen white! - anyone else had problems with their quartz?), Paint mainly F&B Wimborne White and Slipper Satin woodwork, engineered oak floor from Howdens.

You could look at cement tiles. They come in loads of colours, so perhaps you can find tiles with the same (or very similar) greenish grey, but just grey or black and white patterned ones would work too. Or even a different colour or a mix of patterns and colours.

Totally agree! Is your floor real wood, or is it porcelain "wood effect"? For the kitchen we'd suggest tiles, you know, in case of the increased spillage risk :)

Lovely kitchen! I think that the wooden floor you have chosen is a good choice. It will bring warmth to the scheme. I think an off white would be a good choice, something like Dulux Timeless or any of the off whites from F&B (see below). If you want more colour you could always paint the dining end a darker shade? I must say I do like T Gray’s Idea of matching your units then finding colours that go well!

Yeah, change one dimension of color, like Value, and the appearance of the other two change as well.

Which is why I included a few other colors, not just White Heron.

White Heron aligns the closest to Agreeable Gray. But lighter means brighter and that can amplify how easy it is to discern the hue parent, especially in the Yellow hue family.

We can manage that by looking at colors in nearby hue family pockets. E.g. Zurich, Seapearl, China White. It's like calibrating color.

Don't forget you can also paint the walls Agreeable Grey if you want!
