side wall removal replace with ??
Hello!
So we need to bring down this section of wall which is the door into the back garden. (We need the bricks to brick up the garage as the bricks are impossible to match)
My question is, what should we replace it with ? Just more bit different bricks ? Half wall half fence ? All fence ? Any suggestions would be very helpful

Comments (10)I levelled my garden, a paved area of roughly 6m x 6m that sloped upwards 2 1/2 feet. We also got crazy quotes for digging it out, which thanks to the joys of a London terrace had to be done completely by hand with bags of dirt carried through my kitchen. We ended up managing that part ourselves with help from casual, non-builder labour. (Turns out the guys at the local gym don’t earn much, have some spare hours, and have lots of friends in the same boat.). I studied up on retaining walls and became convinced that a timber retaining wall would work. We bought treated timber through Jackson’s Fencing using their slotted fence posts for support. The retaining wall/ new fence was professionally installed, but they had very little digging to do to tidy up the removed area. Comments (5)Hi Natalie I guess it really depends on budget. Do you want to pay for an extension? The cheapest option would be to leave kitchen as is but create a U shape with a peninsular where the kitchen / diner wall is currently. If you don’t use the conservatory because it is too hot / too cold you could remove it and have bifolds where the existing doorway is into conservatory and have your dining table there opening into garden. Comments (7)Sonia’s suggestions to make the more decorative architectural feature speak with a more formal front door will help the second door fade. Changing the second door to a style with no glass and putting frosting or privacy film on the window will say even more “this is not the entry”. If 2 new doors increases cost too much, you could privacy film the glass in the door in addition to the window. I would centralise the side window in the wall and limit full height cabinets to the utility room wall, the former WC corner and if needed, the LHS of the original kitchen window. I would rather any island came off from that side, one, because I'd want to look at the garden as much as poss while cooking but also, two, so it doesn't block the way to the kitchen from the dining room door. I would absolutely retain the external door to the utility for ease of access to/from the garden and for not letting all the heat out of that main room in winter. Any one of the sheds' kitchen design teams could knock something like this up for you so that you can make sure you can fit in everything you need. With inspiration from Sarah’s pic, how about something like this (first pic), but with a window instead. Or fill the gap with breeze blocks and a window then render it? Or use completely different coloured bricks to make a feature. Just a few ideas. Your house looks period, do you know what age it is?
