Hi Tracy, if you're after the best of both you can get shutters on a gliding track (see below) which look really nice but note that this can be quite an expensive option. Alternatively you could vertical blinds or even rollers which can be kept out of the way when you want the window exposed or even hung outside the recess if required. That many blinds would be a pain to open and close on a daily basis. You'd likely end up leaving some of them closed permanently which would cut the light enormously. Consider curtains that hang from the flat wall above the archway, in front of the whole bay window. When open they could hang on either side of the opening, meaning no loss of light. It would definitely make the room smaller when closed but would be a lovely 'wall of fabric', closing off any clutter on your dressing table.

Hi Lucy, A couple of things spring to mind (and this is based purely on the photo above): 1. If the room does not receive a lot of light, perhaps these particular blinds are not the right treatment for your window. They appear to be thin venetians and are blocking a lot of the light through the window. I would consider something else in that particular window. 2. If it is just some colour you want, and you are happy with the amount of light coming into the room, consider buying some curtains. They don't necessarily need to be functional, they can be merely decorative to inject some colour into the room. I see you have a nice feature wall and think that point 1 above might apply! 3. If you are prepared to remove the blind, you could go for just curtains or, if there is a reason for needing privacy eg. being close to the road, you could look at shutters where you can open up the top half to let in more light. 4. As for wall colour, keep it simple as you have the brick wall which is dark. I fresh white would incorporate the blind (if you are keeping it) and would brighten the room whilst contrasting against the brick wall. Also, keep the window area clear. You don't need the lamp in the window/behind the TV. It looks like quite a small room so pare back on the number of "things" in it. It could look quite lovely if it was a little more minimal.
