Hello. How about keeping the part of the kitchen that looks over the back garden as a utility room?Then use a combination of the rest of the kitchen, dining room and a squared of sun room to become the new kitchen/ diner. The sun room name gives me the clue that this may well be the best spot in the house so this should be part of where you spend most of your time, the new kitchen. The front door stays where it is but is made more of a feature with a nice porch. Having a kitchen diner that goes from the front to the back of the house (ie with utility room) takes away having to turn the house around. Your other reception rooms will seem small by comparison but you really will spend the majority of your time in this new space.

Fiona - I’ve been looking into replacing some doors with Crittal style and have contacted loads of suppliers and companies. The one that I’ve been most impressed with is the company mentioned above by Lou Valdini - Merlin Windows in Yorkshire. (I’m in the East Midlands). They gave me a competitive quote really quickly and then I got a quote from the fitter mentioned. (They fit across the UK and they link in with Merlin to ensure timings etc). It’s likely that we will go ahead in the next few months. (Just need to convince husband as he prefers chunky timber 😂)

ultimately loosing a bedroom will always mean loosing value and a bathroom downstairs is really not ideal.. I would make the living room your third bedroom, and then your dining room the living room leading the the kitchen and make your morning room the dining area. use that one big space as one large living space. the Downstairs bathroom can remain or be made into just a downstairs loo with storage. upstairs bedroom three should become a bathroom and the layout proposed by Jonathan squeezing a second ensuite could work well.

Also had similar issues. To my mind anthracite or black windows can look good IF they are done well - they look good when they are good quality windows with modern flat profiles, fitted to a house which has had proper architectural consideration. The problem now is that all the cheaper upvc double glazing companies are doing them with thick frames and chamfered profiles, and they can look clunky and old fashioned rather than sleek and considered. Our sliding doors only came in 4 colour choices, so in the end we have gone for RAL7021 (a soft black) for those - on the modern rear extension - with RAL7006 (beige grey) aluminium composite windows elsewhere on our 1930s house. The sliding doors are in and the 7021 does look really good, almost invisible as the frames are very slim, and I think it works because it's the very modern extension. The windows aren't in yet so I can't comment on how it's all going to work together. I am keeping my fingers crossed...! Our windows will be Velfac which are alu outside, painted timber inside and you can choose different colours for interior/exterior. They weren't as expensive as I thought they were going to be, so it's worth getting a quote for aluminium composite windows before you decide.
