Bi folding door colour and what to do about matching windows

Hi , we are at the start of our kitchen dining extension we have a 3 bed 1930s semi and are extending the open plan kitchen dining room. Wanting to put bi folds on the dining room exterior.
What colour is best?
If we go for aluminium what do we do about getting windows ? Budget doesn’t allow to also get aluminium windows so would be UPVC. The back extension will be window on the kitchen side and bi folds on the dining side.
The issue is I hate the “grey” fashion and think of B&M mirrored tables and crushed velvet when ever I think of grey, but I do think the bi folds look smarter in the anthracite I just don’t know if I want my windows anthracite aswell . Also does the UPVC match the aluminium colour ?

We have a bare brick industrial vs scandi vs natural but period interior taste.
To give an idea ..
Kitchen will be cream/neutral tone cupboards , natural chunky wooden work tops , Belfast sink. Dining room side we have a bare brick fireplace , oxblood Chesterfield, 1940s utility table, dark navy on one wall-think gentlemen’s club type style without the wooden panelling. We have original picture rails and original 1930 4 panel doors which will be staying. Medium Oak colour Parquet floor throughout .
Any advice please ?

I totally get it. My husband and I had the same issues with our 1930s home and our bi-folds. See our renovation here: Kitchen-Make over Scandi-Style. We have not updated our windows upstairs yet, as you can see in the post. We do like the anthracite though in the modern part of the house. I do know, that there are windows available that have a different frame colour inside than outside if that helps. Maybe you can look at houses in your neighborhood and copy that or at least get some good window supplier contacts? Hope you find a solution, it's a tricky one.

I hear you. We have similar style and problem. We are thinking of having pale grey upvc windows for rest of house (I don't like anthracite) then just the bifold and kitchen window on new extension in black....generally I think black window frames look shockingly bad (a house on our street had all theirs done and it's a big mistake in my oponion) but since it would only be on the new rear extension we're wondering if it will work as a monochrome feature...since all our internal walls will be white.

Would you consider black to go with your style?

Hi Kelly, I see that you have not had a reply to your question. So I would like to help, New bi-fold doors and sliding doors have an excellent thermal value. Doors can be made of multiple materials but the best in look, durability is alimininum, with aluminium and double glazed glass zed glass units you will be more than comfortable in the summer and the winter. If you are concerned about the heat coming into the room, for example, if you are south facing, we have a product called thermal glass. We use thermal glass on our roof lights; it is a treated glass that has a tint and reflects heat, the double glazed units stop heat from escaping. I have attached a few pictures of our skylight showing the thermal glass and an example of large skylights and large bifolds, honestly you will not be worried at all with large amounts glass these thermal values. Tani I haven’t been on Houzz as much so not sure where you are on renovation but seen you’re looking at cost effective options. I just wondered if it would be nice as well as cheaper if instead of bifolds you had multiple glazed single doors with brick pillars in between? I can’t find a pic but I’ve seen pics of this on a high end commercial to residential period conversion where I presume they wanted to retain the original openings which were probably windows before but they’d taken the lower bricks out so the windows could be doors. It was a great industrial kitchen living space with lots of exposed brick but lots of light from the glazing.

I agree, anthracite grey would tie in with the rest of the house, the roof tiles and pointing etc. Much softer than black, grey will be more sympathetic to the style of building. I would also frame the new bifold entrance way with some evergreens planted in large clay pots if you can afford this. This will make the rear elevation far more welcoming and interesting and enhance your fabulous new doors! See following link: Soft Landscaping

Also had similar issues. To my mind anthracite or black windows can look good IF they are done well - they look good when they are good quality windows with modern flat profiles, fitted to a house which has had proper architectural consideration. The problem now is that all the cheaper upvc double glazing companies are doing them with thick frames and chamfered profiles, and they can look clunky and old fashioned rather than sleek and considered. Our sliding doors only came in 4 colour choices, so in the end we have gone for RAL7021 (a soft black) for those - on the modern rear extension - with RAL7006 (beige grey) aluminium composite windows elsewhere on our 1930s house. The sliding doors are in and the 7021 does look really good, almost invisible as the frames are very slim, and I think it works because it's the very modern extension. The windows aren't in yet so I can't comment on how it's all going to work together. I am keeping my fingers crossed...! Our windows will be Velfac which are alu outside, painted timber inside and you can choose different colours for interior/exterior. They weren't as expensive as I thought they were going to be, so it's worth getting a quote for aluminium composite windows before you decide.

I can not stand grey so we went black aluminium sliders with black upvc windows. We did consider the aluminium windows as they look very sleek but personally didn't think the cost difference added up
