Front door colour help!

last year

The house is a victorian terrace painted in a light blue/grey/soft lilac colour. The current door is black and it really doesn't do much for it... What colour do you think would work?
I really wanted a salmon pink colour but wonder if it needs to be more of a warmer colour, so more like a deep purple or even a more navy/black. Any suggestions?

Salmon pink (coral or paler) would definitely be a warm shade rather than purple or navy/black. I have blue but it’s more a lilac blue and everyone comments on it 😊 Here’s some example of coral and a paler salmon.

Here you go - some pics of a dark green (F&B Studio Green on our door; we also had stained glass made as the original was missing and had been replaced with that chicken wire security glass) - as you can see the colour works with lighter brick. Not sure it would if our house was all red brick, rather than just being trimmed with it. I'd imagine you want chrome rather than brass door furniture for a yellow door too...I'd recommend a vintage fox door knocker though, or something else ornate and fun!

I’ve answered on your other post ref door colour, so have a look if you wish. As to the brick colour, my mum’s neighbour painted over some beautiful red bricks (sacrilege!) in a terracotta paint then new owners moved in and painted it pale cream and it looks much better now. They also built a wall topped with black railings and it’s very smart now.

Hi Nicola, when thinking about the outside of your house it's always important to consider the style of your home (when is was built) and what others on your street have. There are some rules on what the local council will permit too, so best to check with them first. Whilst it's nice for everyones home to have a unique personality, i believe it looks best when colours and design are in keeping with the original character of the house and road. 1950's homes are typically mid century, so think simplicity and clean lines. White wood siding in white can be a nice way to bring character to the houses facade. Plain, small format roof tiles in clay or slate are ideal materials for this era. I think your front door is where you get to have the most fun. Perhaps consider a colour. 1950's colours could be quite playful. I'd love to work with you on your inteior when the time comes. It looks very girly IMO that shade of pink. I would opt for Navy as it is timeless. I hate repainting often so the salmon/pink would never be my choice. A very dark almost black aubergine like Pelt from F&B could work too.

Hi,

Based on the style of your home, please see one of our front door refurbishment job. I’d suggest a classic and elegant shade like this one in the attached photo. It’s a rich, timeless blue that works beautifully on Victorian terraces, adding character while complementing soft exterior tones.

I actually bought the pelt tester just a few days ago! It is a lovely colour and is firmly on the shortlist! I think I was just hoping to brighten it up a bit with a lighter colour, but this feedback is very helpful:)

Are you planning to paint the outside of your house? Whatever colour you choose for the front door also has to work with the outside. I don't know why but I always prefer a darker front door. Use plants or lighting to add brightness.

First pic is more coral, very pretty. This is my lilac blue door called Pigeon Blue by Halls Doors. They do some lovely colours including all the RAL shades. Very hard to decide!
