Help and ideas for colour of roof tiles, fascias, render, & front door

Hello, i am completely new to this site, and would really welcome ideas and advice from all you people with far more vision and creativity than myself. We are adding a two storey extension and new porch to our 3 bed 1950's semi detached, and looking to give the current pebbledash exterior a face lift. we have original lead encapsulated into white pvcu frames as shown in photograph so will be copying these into new extension, and because of this, i dont think we can be too contemporary with the new look. i was thinking of a slate grey roof, with white fascias and a white or off white render, and undecided whether to go with a black composite porch/ front door and side lights or irish oak. i really like black door but given roof tiles will also be fitted on porch apex roof i am not sure if this clashes. ive never done anything like this before and would welcome any advice or ideas? many thanks.

Hi Nicola, when thinking about the outside of your house it's always important to consider the style of your home (when is was built) and what others on your street have. There are some rules on what the local council will permit too, so best to check with them first. Whilst it's nice for everyones home to have a unique personality, i believe it looks best when colours and design are in keeping with the original character of the house and road.

1950's homes are typically mid century, so think simplicity and clean lines. White wood siding in white can be a nice way to bring character to the houses facade. Plain, small format roof tiles in clay or slate are ideal materials for this era.

I think your front door is where you get to have the most fun. Perhaps consider a colour. 1950's colours could be quite playful.

What a lovely window. Do you have a picture of the outside of the house that you don’t mind sharing? I think it will help Houzzers visualise what would look best. I know you are extending so it will look different when completed. I love slate tiles so thumbs up for them. Door colours are a very personal thing, so you could have natural wood, darker shades like black, grey or blue, or something a bit more jazzy like pink or yellow. It also depends on the style of door you choose really. I like the sound of Irish oak too.

£800,000 in debt after making sure they had taken all the money they could no doubt. The Dyes could easily solve your letterbox and sealed unit issue if they were interested in doing the right thing, as they only place these orders with another company in Lithuania, who are still the same supplier for Hatches. Fyntons/Hatches are basically selling on the contract for significant profit...if they ordered those parts again for you it would cost them next to nothing. Being a Covid issue is absolute nonsense...every other business involved in building and renovation is booming since Covid. And how strange to set up an identical business right in the middle of lockdown! Saw an opportunity to run with the money and start again.

Thank you Colorhappy, I was secretly hoping you would comment as you clearly know all about colour, something I definitely struggle with a little. I think your suggestion of a stone colour for the render and a green blue for the doors would look lovely, and I love the idea of it relating to the greenery in the garden. Do you have any suggestions for a stone colour? I have looked at F&B for the green/blue, they have a paint actually named green/blue, but I am not sure if this is too much of a literal interpretation of your advice :-) I also like the oval room blue too, do you think this could work? I love Stiffkey blue, but not sure if this is too rich/deep a colour and would end up looking dark? The front of the house faces north but still gets lots of great light, the house is elevated somewhat so it is never in shadow if that makes any difference to our choice of colour?

I would not combine a white or off white render with white windows. One makes the other look 'off' as they don't match. I think you can combine with any shade of grey and have a different colour front door. You can also, go outside the 'Grey' box that we're all in currently. Buff, or any neutral colour will look nice with a white render. Usually I would also say that the window colour is dictated to predominantly by the roof colour, as grey with a red roof tile, doesn't look nice. Grey with grey roof tiles is lovely for instance. Can you post a picture of the house? It's a lot easier to suggest things with visuals of the look of the place.

After a delay, now in the middle of renovating the bungalow but I'm having second thoughts about the colour of the windows. Currently have slate grey tiles and white fascias. I was planning to go with white windows (although the fascias are RAL 9010 and the windows only available in RAL 9003, so slightly different whites!), but I really like painswick/agate grey RAL 7038 windows on other properties. I'd welcome any advice before making a decision! I'm also unsure about the render colour for the front of the house to go with RAL 9003 windows. The back of the house is brick.

door is actually exactly what i had in mind. my house currently looks exactly like my neighbours house captured in the photograph of my window, except that is already extended, i have attached the drawing of what it will look like when extended. I have to balance keeping the original leads and in line with area and wanting to modernise it also. your comments are very helpful, thank you
