Another sink rail question

last year

We have face frame cabinets, soapstone counters, and Kraus Dex under mount sinks. @Joseph Corlett, LLC has said repeatedly that it should be possible to get an under mount sink less than 3” from the edge. Our fabricator is not willing to go less than 3 3/8” between the edge of the counter and the inside edge of the sink (3 5/8” between the edge of the counter, and the counter edge that overhangs the sink.)

That gives 1.5” from counter edge to cabinet; 3/4” for the cabinet box; 1/4” gap; 7/8” for the sink flange. I asked about routing the top of the cabinet so the sink flange could sit on it, and he nixed that, saying they need the gap so they have some wiggle room during install.

What an I missing? I don’t understand the wiggle room argument - laser measurements should be precise.
