I think the worktop is down to personal choice, I think maybe i'd go for the white if it were me. I don't like the tiles with either of the worktops though. I'd go for an up stand and / or different tiles. How about a frosted / matt / brushed glass splash back to match the same colour as the worktop. I recently ordered one from Splashbacksuk had it finished in the same f&b as the walls, looks great.

I agree with rinq that the efficiency of the motor is essential. I came across just a few hood manufacturers who can afford to say their extractor will work with any distance from the hob and they are naturally the most expensive. I must mention Gutmann as one of them. And of course, what I've learnt the ceiling extractor doesn't have to absorb all the smell and vapor immediately but if you put it on before starting cooking and leave it on for example 30 min later, it will clean the air well enough.

what is the level of insulation provided by glazings and new walls? especially glazing, to avoid dispersions... ideally radiators should be close to the cold points (glazing, again) to balance the environment and shield the incoming cold. The corner with the table seems the best option, if I translate this plan into a finished space. Other factors: Curtains can help. Solar gain (exposure) can help. A dark paving outside can help (absorbs sunlight and releases heats slowly). I often say it's better to consult an architect in advance, dear, because of matters like this that get pointed out during the design... But do not desperate, just make sure the insulation is good and the glazings are good too!

Cabinets along with the chimney breast ( to be selected ) I agree - we need a colour which will be deep and will contrast with the grey concrete acupanel media unit - love the idea of the copper /toffee - will it be a sufficient contrast against the adjacent skimming stone walls ? Would you wallpaper/or can you suggest a colour? What about the Hague Blue - that is quite a deep colour? and I could offset that will some copper /toffee decorations on the back wall ? Also I would like a pop of colour near the dining area . My immediate task is to choose a colour for the backwall as the decorator is in within a couple week and the media unit will be installed the week after . Do i just play it safe and do the back wall skimming stone - and change the back wall colour later - or is there a colour that is an obvious choice ?
