Hi Julia, it's a bit difficult making suggestions from a distance without seeing and 'feeling' the space but you have several options... pendant lights are certainly one, as Pavilion Broadway has suggested. You could have several dotted around the space, even hanging them at different heights - which could be fun. Alternatively you could use LED strip lighting around the room - this gives a very modern look and of course could be used in conjunction with other types of lighting. The attractive vaulted ceiling means you will be looking up at it so you don't want to be blinded by spotlights pointing down and remember you'll occasionally need to change bulbs so whatever you install make sure it is accessible. Depending on how you decorate and furnish the room you could consider a variety of lighting that works from the floor upwards. I think we are too often stuck on the idea that lights have to come down from the ceiling. They don't. Hope that helps but will be happy to discuss further. Best wishes, it looks a super project. Perhaps move the island to the left, so the distance between island and tall units on the left side is about 100 cm and then put something like this over it? You could possibly do that too without moving the island:

Have you considered a Crystal chandelier? I make custom pieces that would suit this space very well, possibly a maximum drop of 1m (if there is to be walking space underneath, longer if it is suspended above an island or similar) with the lighting sitting in a lighting plate at the top.

our revamped kitchen will have a vaulted ceiling which we wish to light with a light strip (as well as pendant lights). We have used `Phillips hue elsewhere and like the flexibility of this. but not sure we can get this in the length (approx 2m x 4m) and whether there are more appropriate alternatives. many thanks
