Kitchen diner ideas

This kitchen is quite small for me. I'd like lots of storage and counter space. I'd like space for a dining table. I'm relaxed about open /broken plan. I'm relaxed about an island- in fact I would prefer to not have an island but I think they're useful for storage. Grateful for ideas / suggestions. I'm not planning to extend. They're are nice to haves, eg utility, reading nook, pantry but I accept they might not be possible within this space. Thanks.

I'd move the kitchen into the reception room at the back, get rid of the wall between the two rooms, and place a dining table in what is currently the kitchen, possibly creating a banquette with storage in the corner. I think an island would be nice considering the space, I'm also in general not a fan, but with this layout I think it'll work out lovely! You can also remove the door between the kitchen and the hall so that it's always open and you get a view of the garden behind the dining table when you enter the house.

Hi Claire, When you’re looking at concept planners or interior designers I would begin by looking at a selection of people. It’s important that you find someone who you get on with (that are on the same page as you from the start), as the entire process goes on for quite some time and you go through a lot with this person. It’s also important to get a few quotes and make sure you get lists of what you get for your money - as almost every pro does things slightly differently. They should all start, as Jonathon mentions above, with an in depth at your requirements and needs for the space as well as the property itself. Having all this information means we can then tailor a layout specifically to you and how you’re going to use the space. I personally begin by offering 3-4 different layout options with pros and cons. This gives you lots of choice and helps you to think about the space and to analyse it more clearly. I hope this helps. Hi Uzma! My instinct in this area would be to flip the room and use the 4m wall for appliances, larder and sink with a deep island running parallel with additional storage, worktop and casual seating, leaving the rest of the room for a more intimate dining area. People often initially feel that storage and worktop space will be restricted but with a good use of drawers there will be no problems. Also the way an island is used will maximise surface space.

LR/DR you have the chimney stack to remove too. Have you considered leaving the living room as is - a front room/snug/tv room and opening up the dining/kitchen instead? i.e. so your front room is always that calm escape even when you dont want to tidy the kitchen, and the back area is a large kitchen/diner - working/task type environment? If the shower room would move into the corner (where utility is now) you could open up the kitchen/conservatory a bit too? - perhaps a separate project.

Hi!, as a furniture/kitchen designer for over 30 years I try to come to the clients with a complete open mind. I ask the question that I need to understand how you live and want to live 10 years from now 15 years from now and so on. It's vital to open the time conversations as often families consider that as it is, is how we plan and build. When in reality we all age together and we all keep moving, of we are lucky to be healthy and able. So! Starting from that prospective I'll build a picture based on first the practicals.... How many people living in the house ? Age profile? Special food needs? How do you like to cook Range or oven & hob? 6.Have you a preference of sinks? ie Belfast sink or undermounted sink? Have you a thought on boiling water taps? What's your opinion on worktops? Quartz, Granite, wood, Corian, laminate? After that it down to the nicer things. What colours, textures and layout work best. After that it's lighting and that's a life if its own.
