Help with square open plan living kitchen
I’m about to move house and the kitchen has had an extension that is extremely square. the current owners have a pool table in the centre if the room and a large sofa thst hugs the outside wall and a giant tv. I would like to rearrange the kitchen, keep an island and have a table. What I need help with is if there is a way anyone can see for there to be a sofa and tv in there too. Being square and a large set of bifolds limits what walls can be used for a tv. I have a large table that seats 8-10 (90x220cm). I have included another idea of switching quite a lot around as i really would like a separate laindry and bootroom.

Comments (24)It could be an idea to demarcate the kitchen using the floor, rather than by using furniture - the easiest and cheapest way would be a rug of suitable material. If the area is demarcated there isn't as pressing a need to put something there, like an island or table. It also preserves the sense of open space - you said the room was small overall, so it's important not to crowd it with furniture. Then the furniture you do have can be spaced out, so you can have a larger sitting area. A round table would be good in the corner by the door. Round because as Minnie said it takes less space. A glass table would be best as it is see-through and preserves a sense of space. Round is also good because it adds softness - the rest of the room is going to have square or rectangular lines to it. The dining table could also be the desk. An alternative would be a coffee table in the sitting area that converts into a desk - if you google "coffee table and desk" you will see some really cool examples. I don't know how to copy and post the images, so you will have to search it, sorry! Corner TV - I have the same problem. I'm considering a wall mount. Comments (13)You have a lovely home to work with. I would say don't underestimate mirrors for making a room look twice as big. Have you considered giant mirrors, or mirroring an entire wall? How about the curved wall? I would pay attention to lighting also, as great lighting can make your home look a million dollars and more spacious. I would make a focal point with television resting on a gorgeous storage cabinet, place wall picture frames on wall where tv is placed, this will draw attention to the art and cabinet rather than the tv itself. I would get highback armchairs and use them for both dining and lounge seating with a sofa. I like those Victorian card tables on wheels, that fold up, multipurpose. Only buy furniture you absolutely love, don't follow trends, follow your heart, after all you want to feel good at home. Don't be half-hearted follow your dreams, be confident. Two suggestions to help you plan your space: 1. mark on your plan exactly where ALL water and gas supplies are, to help with planning your kitchen. It can also be useful to mark the positions of other key services - electrics, boiler / heating, etc. 2. cut out pieces of paper to the same scale and shape as all the items of furniture and kitchen units that you want, and play around with them - take photos each time you reach a result that you like. From my experience of working as an architect in Spain the building regulations and permit requirements are quite different to the UK. Things like gas runs are controlled differently and water, especially drainage, are also dealt with differently. Speak with a local arquitecto or arquitecto tecnico, to help you assess what can and can't be repositioned. PRO6 months agolast modified: 5 months agoI just concerned is the diamond shape is an Island? The bigger its harder to reach things placed on the center of the island of the island too big
On the master bedroom on suite if the sink placed below window then you cant put mirror on it so switch the placement instead
its unusual to have desk alongside kitchen cabinet why not zone it with library area and place feidge on its place
also the library bookshelf doesnt need to gather in one spot to maximize storage
If the TV placed in the center then the back can be used as bookshelf or if you want to place the desk here
The reading area might be in line with dining table but it provide view to the window
