Reply to: Not sure why all your furnishings are pressed up against the walls. No one wants to sit in a corner. Bring those lounge chairs out a bit in front of the hearth to aid conversation. The rug you selected seems too small, and your sofa makes such a color statement, I'm not sure why you aren't interested in doubling down on the color with your rug selection. Anyway here's a few ideas for the room. I wouldn't make a decision about the brick until I fixed the room furnishings and toned down the mantle. The white is like wearing white socks when you wear a brown formal suit. It just doesn't work.

Reply to: Instead of a desk in the right lower corner, if that's a solid wall and not a window, you could put a bookcase there. Ikea's Billy bookcases with the added height pieces are well priced and quite nice looking if there is an Ikea near you. I made minor changes to your drawing, including adding a butler's tray in the upper right corner, but it could be in any corner. There are two below that I like. I also moved the sofa 6" further from the FP in order to have its front legs on the rug that I added. The rug was a real problem. We can't bring the rug much further toward the bottom wall because you don't want to walk by there with one foot on the rug and the other off it, so I custom sized your rug, tho a rug dealer may have something near that size. You can always have carpet cut to the size and bound.
