The 90degree capper/edger here on the gabion is great. Also, I really like the combination of colors/materials in this. I like the gate that is stacked wood with black metal supports/accents, the use of gravel for the courtyard, the red/rust small retaining wall and the gabion. Together they make a modern but earthy combination.
I especially like the wooden wall and it describes how they built it.

This house is lovely, of course, with the ipe fence, but in this picture, I am actually looking at the hillside in the foreground of the photo. I like how they put railroad ties as steps but then leveled into a gravel terrace before going up again. It is a very natural look and, I suppose, saves some money.
This style of planter is what I was trying to describe for the front, but ours would not be against the house.
This is similar to my idea of a front "courtyard" off the driveway to the front of the house. Also, this driveway seems to be made of pavers with rocks in between. That's kind of neat.
Again - mix of materials. Our house will be a color very close to this home. I like the blue-grey mixed with the wood and the stone. I also like how the lower retaining walls are just big boulders stacked.
The use of groundcover between stair treads is really neat here. Also, I think these are the partially rusted steel walls again.

In this photo I really like the mix of materials - black, gray, and wood. I think the planter may be a partially rusted steel? I also like how the stairs are visually offset from the path to the front door, forcing you to meander through the garden on your way there. Finally, the use of stones that "float" on a bed of black gravel is really nice.

Is stacked stone masonry like this more expensive or less expensive. Can this look be achieved reasonably with a concrete block wall that is faced with veneer stone?
