These decisions were pre made when when you picked your lower price point and cabinet line. That’s how budget cabinets do end panels. And the crown is always applied straight to the box on a budget line.
A higher priced line offers several more options for end panels than just applied fake doors. A higher priced line would also install multiple layers of crown that would have pushed it out 3/4” with those additional layers ($$) to flush it with the doors and side panels. Which would also move the miter pointers. And extend the depth of the crown’s reach.
