Reply to: You are never really going to emulate this color because the color appears as it does due to the light in the room, which is fantastic given all of the windows. (Look at how much light is streaming on to that sofa and elsewhere.) Instead, think about the qualities of this color that you love. I suspect you like that it is warm and a tad bit golden and creamy. I think you are also likely responding to how it looks in contrast to the very pure white ceilings and trim. (But others here are suggesting more greige leaning colors so maybe it is just reading super warm and golden on my screen?) I love this color too and have used maritime white, linen white, and Navajo to achieve this. But they are going to look totally different in your light, in your home. I like to select Farrow and Ball colors because there are way fewer of them to get confused by. If you don't like or can't afford Farrow and Ball it can be somewhat color matched or you can find designers online who give the equivalent.

Reply to: I've seen bookcase doors that hide a room behind them. Perhaps you could use this idea--bookcase doors that face the walkway but pull the doors open to reveal storage space. A warning however; the more that you store, the more time you spend managing what you have stored, and the more effort it will be to move or downsize. So be sure that what you store is really worth storing.

Reply to: I’m confused as to whether you’re planning other major thing just to mitigate the fireplace. But overall if fireplace is staying, I agree with leave it very simple, no camouflage, no art above. Let it become” neutral”. Then examine room for where to put other art you love, furnishings and colors that work and are updated ( not “ modern” per se but good lines, good quality) so that these things are the stars of the room.Also re- think any layout changes that help, direction of seating, TV placement & styling, to optimize the “ flow” and comfort in the room.

Reply to: I agree with the suggestion to go to a "Persian" rug dealer with your question. I visited one when I had our rug cleaned. Although I wasn't in the market, he showed me rugs piled on tables after tables that were every size and color one could imagine. I would guess that his shop had at least a thousand different rugs.

Reply to: Converting the dining room to a bedroom would not work with this floorplan. First, the bathroom is too far away, second, how would you enter the bedroom? A better choice would be to convert the family room into a bedroom and perhaps a study and then make the dining room into a family room.

Reply to: You definitely need counter space next to the ovens, both to place things before they go in and especially to place things that come out hot. You would do better to have a range rather than a cook-top and double ovens.
