Reply to: End panels are not nearly enough support. You cannot go over 24” in width without intermediate crosswise support in 3 cm. 2cm needs it no further than 18” apart. Overhangs are fragile. Plywood is not support. It flexes. It’s a thickness compensator for a built up edge only. It supports nothing. The easy route is to build this like a table that attaches to the cabinets. Posts, with intermediate supports, back to the island. Which has to be reinforced to accept it. The table apron is connected to the posts and offers major support, and the intermediate cross pieces add stability and support also. The least obtrusive is to use the 12” invisible steel brackets, with a reinforced cabinet back, and place them every 18” or closer.

Reply to: Yes I would say that is 2cm. Btw, I did think of another visual trick that makes the counter look thicker. Cut the edge profile at a slight back bevel, somewhere around 20*-30*. The bottom would be eased, and the cut angled edge is now closer to 3cm. Hope that makes sense! Steve
