The stone is sliced thin and put on a mesh backing, I believe the panels were roughly 1' x 2',

the look we want may be achievable with this secret: "that stone is called Chopped Granbury, from the Dallas-Ft. Worth area in Texas. It was laid in a thick mortar joint with a slight 'smear' to try and make it look old. Hope that helps."
