I remember once reading how beauty is not found by the addition of several perfect parts, but by the unique combination of unusual and “imperfect” features, which as a whole make something striking and beguiling.
Beauty, after all, is where we derive meaning in our souls from otherwise banal objects. And upon matters of the soul do we reflect our humanity (which we know to be imperfect).
Finding beauty, then, in a chair or a wall may seem somewhat illogical, but in fact it strikes at the heart of what makes us human because we may admire more than just the object itself, but the place in space and time that we find it in, and the home with it that we can make for ourselves.
A home combining strange, quirky features, is yet complete as a beautiful reflection of who we are.
