We are at the beginning of the whole house remodel and my husband and I debating on type of sink for our transitional/contemporary master bathroom. I fell in love with solid surface integrated vanity tops while browsing at the upscale bath showroom in SF.

The brand is irrelevant, because a lot of high end brand names produce those sinks in any of these three materials. My personal preference for solid surface are: look - very elegant, clean lines, customizable sizes and configurations. Also, published easy care and benefits, ecological impact are very encouraging. My husband argues that they look like plastic and lose their original appeal very quickly.

I like glass integrated sinks for their similar elegant and classy look, but a lot of sales people advised against glass sinks because of intensive maintenance and less durability. They chip and scratch easily and it is hard and expensive to bring them back to the original look.

Finally, porcelain is too boring to me, rigid in form and hard to find custom size we need. I am looking for 40" x 22" sink top with embedded basin (preferably oval) 22-27"x13-15"x4-5".

I would love to get opinions of professional designers, plumbers and owners of any of these types of basins based on personal experiences and professional expertise.
