The boards are just 1x12" plain boards (no tongue and groove, etc.). I'm not sure exactly where the contractor sources them from, but you can probably find this size board in pine at the local big-box lumber yard. If you can find it in poplar it may be cheaper, and poplar is a more stable wood than pine. You might want to try different sizes- an 8" board may look better on your wall, and it might be less likely to warp. Be sure to take into account how the extra wall thickness will affect outlets and window/door trim, and good luck with the project.
