Another alternative for the planters: red cedar in 2 x 8. Can't stain or polyurethane them if we are to grow vegetables in them. So wood will gray out and eventually rot. So not ideal.

Watering troughs could be a good alternative to building walls. I found a farming supply store who sells them for $269 each for a 20 gauge galvanized steel 10 feet long, 3 feet wide, 2 feet high. Love the pea gravel around it.
