What Colour Bar Stools?

I am trying to lighten up my kitchen with some easy cheap quick fixes to last until we can afford to remodel it.
I bought the school style stacking stools- I like how visually 'light' they are.

Original idea was to spray paint the legs glossy white, but now I am considering painting the seat glossy white instead, and leaving the legs black

Thoughts?!

I think it depends on what you are going to do with the rest of the area and where you want to draw the eye. You have a beautiful big open blue wall right there, are you going to hang something large and colorful? If so, I would leave the seats as-is and let the focus be on the art. If not, maybe you do want to paint the stools. If you do, I would definitely paint the seats and not the legs.

paint them black to match legs, counter. the wall does the brightening. Black will anchor a light/bright room.

Hello Shelley, Bar stools are often problematic... What's on offer with these types of chair in the design world often leaves much to be desired... I see them ruining a good kitchen over and over again, gaudy colours, ghastly design etc etc..... So.... What about introducing another element texture wise... Concrete is a fabulously versatile material... These chairs and bar stools would be lovely by Lyon Beton.. They are beautiful in design and really comfortable- I sat in them at 100% Design... Think they would look beautiful in your kitchen complimenting the metal elements and bringing an additional aesthetic that will "sit" perfectly!! : ) )Bar Stool..

Hello 81bec, I like to suggest the word "Textures" So if you have grey and white as a colour theme then add to this to layer the look.. Think concrete bar stools and chairs and textured flooring.. Could be Encaustic tiles, Concrete screed or even a parquet in several shades and interesting design, chevron or a more traditional herringbone which works beautifully in an arrangement of styles to the very contemporary.. It could be a mix of any one of those as tile and parquet would be lovely as would tiles and concrete screeds.. The options for you really are endless... With the doors and skirting.. bring them into the scheme... So give them colour too.. That way you actually have far more choices as you have included every aspect of the room.. Or keep them as is and add more woods here and there.. So maybe warm woods as accessories and bowls or other lovely pieces you'd find in a kitchen.. With the vaulted aspect you have space so make the most of this and lighting can be a key contender too! It sounds like a very exciting room and one you'll no doubt want to spend a lot of time in.. A somewhat less formal than usual chesterfield would be lovely... See image attached with other suggestions I have made above.. : ))

Oh - sorry - I thought I answered this yesterday - but I added it elsewhere ! Yes 70cm is correct for that height of bar the 76 ones are for a raised bar ! Hope that helps !!

I have lived in two places with breakfast bars in American style kitchens. I found that I tended to spend a great deal of time sitting there so a bar stool with a comfortable back is important. I made mine from pine, copied from some I saw in a bar. I was also given an old captains swivel seat from a yacht so I built a stand for it, reupholstered it and unfortunately left it for the new tenant who liked it. That was one of my favourite seats, to sit in comfort at a breakfast bar rather than balancing without a back to lean on.

Wow thank you Sarah! thats amazing!!Its funny you did Yellow- I have some yellow salt and pepper shakers and am trying to introduce some little yellow accents. I do really LOVE the yellow stools, but theres just so much going on in this kitchen already I think I need to keep it pared down. If I could get spray paint in the same colour as the wall...id love that. But the white seats dont look too bad, what do you think?

@Manhattan Home Design That's my favourite too - that blue is calling out for some snazzy yellow like that!
@hesmywatermelon If it's too much to do colour, then white seats is my next favourite. :) If you're wanting any other colour or combination tried out then it just takes a matter of seconds to alter your picture x

Are you going to keep the black counter? If so, paint the seats black....even if you plan to change everything eventually, the stools can be painted over anytime, wonderful thing about paint! I agree on focusing on the blue wall at that spot ....the idea of a colorful (with yellow!) large piece of art is a good one...I see a Paul Klee on that wall! Put yellow in room with art.

As they are reminds me of high school science classes. ;)
I'm not sure if the two shades of wood complement each other well without being more bold with it (I live in a new build and mix all different shades and types of wood... but that is a conscious look I'm going for.)

I do like the idea of white stools, if you fancy painting the stools. I would personally paint the walls white and hang some bright coloured art (maybe with some yellow accents) - it will brighten the area. If you don't want to spend too much on the paint, either browse through the discounted section in B&Q and homebase, or buy cheap white paint (£4.00 for 5L homebase brand) and mix part of it with a paint tester of your choice for off white shade (like white + beige for lovely warm light shade of roman stone) - you're lucky to have such a lovely and well lit kitchen!

White seats and frame. All the other combinations add too much alternative and fussiness. White will blend with anything. Agree about the wall and image. If the frame is metal, you will be best to prime still having rubbed the frame down even though they have been painted before. RS Bike paints http://www.rsbikepaint.com/en-gb/products.php use the High build primer and then choose your colour. It's easy.

looks great the great thing about the wooden stools is that you can repaint them depending on the season without the need to buy new stools

Paint the top of stools red. Put big Paul Klee like art on wall with colours -- Deeper blue, red and yellow. You might have some nice fruits of those colours in the bowl too then from time to time :)
