Hi Thank you for your message. Is your builders based in the London se area? Would love to achieve the same but in our small cellar area. We need to ensure that the builders of our choice is experience in that area of work. Not someone that is not able to fullfil the brief. On the outset these types of cupboards look great as extra storage but from what I have seen with clients who have similar spaces, without some sort of storage unit in place they become cluttered or unused, so I completely agree you need to get something in there to utilise the space! Would getting a bespoke fitted bedroom designer in such as Hammonds or Sharps be an option? They could design something specifically for that space to really utilise it and make the most of it!

I would choose option 2 but make sure it looks nice from the side! Rattan baskets can also work well for shoes, do you have any space in the wc?
