You have a lovely bedroom, however, I'm a believer in 'Less is more' and I think a Roman blind with shutters would make the windows look fussy. Presumably, the shutters give the required amount of privacy so why not simply replace the curtains with a material of your own choice. They would also give a little extra warmth during the winter evenings.

I am not sure what you are unsure about. If you don't like that the windows are different on one side of the room then try to unify the look with matching curtains that run floor to ceiling. Alternatively you don't know how to place furniture consider zoning the area with rugs

Hi Ellie, You should have a lintel above the existing window already and therefore if the door is the same width as the window then you shouldn't need to replace this. You will need to consider the damp proof course of the house (depending on the age of the house) and where that sits in relation to the new opening for the door. If you are taking away bricks below the damp proof membrane then you will need to add extra under the door. You will also need to think about how the water sheds off the door cill. A good installer will be able to advise you on this. Unless you are in a listed building or a conservation area where article 4 has been applied by the council you shouldn't need planning permission for this.

You could put in stained glass of some type or perhaps a traditional etched glass or sandblasted design . The benefit of stained glass is it that it adds colour to the inside and lights up like a lantern when it is dark. You can still have a panel you can see through if you wanted. I would recommend getting both the window and the doorway done to complement one another, as that would be really lovely from both the inside and the outside. Your entrance seems fairly exposed as it is, so another alternative would be to fit a secondary door internally to your hallway with an obscure glass treatment that would give you privacy. Veronica
