Help with blind length

I have half height shutters in the master bedroom which we are going to keep. I am going to get some roman blinds made but i don't know how long to get them, should they just reach the top of the shutters or should they go all the way to the bottom of the window? There is a bay window and then another window to the right, have attached a pic of the photo from when we bought it. Hated these curtains hence the change!

Whether or not you keep the curtains is not part of the solution. If you have shutters on the bottom half of your windows for privacy, then another set of matching shutters on the top half of the window will provide light control and allow you to open the shutter on the top during the day. Mixing Roman blinds and shutters is not a good look.

Personally I would have to have them the full length of the window then up to you how far down you let them hang.

Might be just me, but I don't believe Roman blinds look great or are the best bit for full length....

I have no idea if they are duette or not. It's so long ago now that I can't remember what they are called but they are a pleated blind. Mine aren't black out as it's a sunroom but I'm sure you could get a black out option if needed. I have attached some more photos so you can see what they look like open. As others have said it might be worth shopping around. It's a long time since we got ours so there could well be more companies doing a similar product now.

Oh, now I think I get it. You need to remove the track ends to slide on more hooks. Tricky to do with that fixing bracket in the way. If is is cut to the exact size then you will have no option but to take the whole track, brackets and blind down add more hooks and then refix it. Is it fixed with screws? I cannot see a way to release the track without removing the fixing brackets.

I am going to do exactly as you.....however I'm only going to the shutter and having Austrian blinds to give more effect behind the main curtain which will hang straight.

Have the Romans made to sill length but fitted on continuous chain tracks so, although the blinds will fold up as Romans, they operate like a roller and you can stop them at any point up or down.

If you need light blocking, i think the roman blind is probably your best bet in the bay window and you're probably stuck to do the same for the other window. Why do you want to keep the shutters? I wouldn't keep both, it's just too busy. Alternatively you can get a plantation shutter which would go the entire length of the window and can be very effective in blocking light. You then may be able to take your dresser and place it in the middle of the two windows (the bay window looks busy and cluttered and that piece is pretty--it needs it's own space). If it doesn't fit there, you should consider placing it elsewhere.

What a beautiful bedroom . I love Roman blinds but have you considered what they would look like , when up , with the shutters below ? If you do decide on Roman blinds then I would definitely go the full length of the window .
However, another thought , what about full length voile curtains on a neutral pole . Your room already has a lovely romantic feel and voiles would enhance that ambience .

Personally I think roman blinds would look a little fussy I would opt for a plain blind that can go the whole depth down. Or can you ask the previous homeowners where the shutters were from & then get top shutters installed.

You have a lovely bedroom, however, I'm a believer in 'Less is more' and I think a Roman blind with shutters would make the windows look fussy. Presumably, the shutters give the required amount of privacy so why not simply replace the curtains with a material of your own choice. They would also give a little extra warmth during the winter evenings.

Lovely room. I would either get top plantation shutters to match the bottom and then lose the curtains completely, or remove the shutters and go for a Roman blind only, in a nice muted fabric. Something like the attached.

A possible solution might be made-to-measure laminated blackout roller blinds in the window recess. This would allow plenty of light into the room when up and during the day when the sun moves position they can be dropped to the appropriate height. These would look great with the shutters which are a fantastic feature.

I would get another set of shutters to fit the gap, and do without blinds or curtains. It's a very good uncluttered look, and in your lovely room not detract from the other furnishing which is so attractive. We've done pretty much the same thing in our Victorian house, upstairs and down, and love the effect.

We agree with many of the other comments that roman blinds would look too fussy with the shutters. Here is a pic of some roller blinds we installed where there were existing shutters like you have. These blinds are from our basics range but you could opt to have them as blackout roller blinds. The result is simple and fuss-free.
